Chikwawa, August 21, 2015: Issues of Data Entry and Recording of cases have been made simple at Chikwawa Police Station following the donation of computer set by one pastor as one way of easing police’s operations.
This means the station now has two computers considering that all along they had been using a single computer which was regularly being used by the Criminal investigation Department (CID).
Speaking to the Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Thursday after the donation, Chikwawa Police Station Officer In-Charge, Macmillan Nyirongo commended Pastor Lapson Mbewe of the Christian Apostolic Church of God describing it a timely donation.
He said, “I am very thankful to the pastor for the donation of the computer to our office because previously we only had one computer in the CID office which was overloaded with work. We don’t have even one for the administration office, the victim support unit, not even one computer in the OC’s office and the whole police station does not have a printer. This poses very difficult situations in our daily operations.”
Nyirongo added that on behalf of the Inspector General and the Commissioner of Police, he received the computer with pleasure as he believed that it would reduce the burden the CID office had, adding that it would not be the only traffic department benefiting but rather the whole office.
“We have had very difficult situations when we needed to print documents and we have gone to the District Commissioner’s Office, the education office even to the private owned café which this does not satisfy us because there is some work that attracts more of private.
I would like to extend our request to other NGOs, individuals even to the government so that they supply us with more of such equipment because we are under panic.” said Nyirongo.
He further urged his fellow officers to make the best use of the computer so that it lasted long for the benefit of the office, the district and the nation at large.
On his part, Pastor Lapson Mbewe said it was his pleasure to make such a donation to police especially to the traffic department citing that there were a lot of controversies when one needed to get a police report from the officers.
He said, “It was last year when I wanted to get a police report from the traffic police but it took me 4 days because they had nowhere to type and print it out and that attracted me to make this donation. I should also thank God for enabling me fulfill the donation which I promised some time back and I hope it will make an impact not only to the office but to the district as a whole.”
He added that there were more of donations to come in order to uplift the lives of individuals most especially in working environments whilst calling upon the law enforcers to best utilize the computer for the benefit of the nation.
