Pastor Chris Mathebula, a South African leadership consultant, has refuted allegations that he endorsed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for a second term in office.

The controversy arose after Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) reported that Pastor Mathebula said Chakwera deserves another term.

Pastor Mathebula, a key speaker at the ongoing Global Leadership Summit in Lilongwe, condemned MBC for misquoting him.

“I do not interfere with Malawian politics, and the choice to elect a better president lies in the hands of Malawi,” he emphasized.

While Pastor Mathebula did praise President Chakwera’s leadership, saying Malawi is blessed to have a president with a vision to take the country forward, he never explicitly endorsed him for a second term.

“Dr. Chakwera’s leadership has inspired people locally and internationally,” he noted.

The incident raises concerns about media integrity and the responsibility of journalists to report accurately.

MBC’s misquote has sparked confusion and controversy, highlighting the need for fact-checking and responsible journalism.

As a leadership consultant, Pastor Mathebula’s focus is on providing guidance and support rather than interfering in local politics.

His comments on President Chakwera’s leadership were meant to acknowledge the president’s vision and inspiration, not to influence the electoral process.

The controversy surrounding Pastor Mathebula’s alleged endorsement of President Chakwera has sparked debate about the role of external influencers in Malawi’s politics.

As the country approaches its next election, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate information and responsible leadership.

Pastor Mathebula’s denial of endorsing President Chakwera for a second term highlights the need for accurate reporting and responsible journalism.

As Malawi’s politics continue to evolve, it’s essential to prioritize fact-checking and integrity in media reporting.
