Polytechnic student caught stealing in People’s Shop

 

Poly student nabbed by police

A second year student at the Malawi Polytechnic is in Mangochi police custody after being found stealing assorted items in the district’s People’s Shop.

Mangochi police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi identified the suspect as a 32 year old Victor Owen of Chikwati village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in  Zomba district.

Daudi said this happened on Friday around evening hours.

According to the Mangochi police spokesperson, some of the stolen items include 23 tablets of Protex soap, 3 packets of  Kamba, 8 bottles of Cocoa,  2 loaves of bread and others.

Daudi said the suspect carried some of the stolen items in the basket while others in the jacket he putted on.

“It was the Shop Manager who called the police and according to the manager all the stolen items were amounted to K45,000.00,” said Daudi.

The suspect will appear before the court soon to answer the charges shop lifting. Some quarters believe that the suspect planned to use the stolen items at the school which is expected to open next month.
