BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Its caring now. Covid-19 cases in Malawi has risen up to 1402 with 317 recoveries and 16 deaths.
The presidential Taskforce therefore on on Thursday July 2, 2020 called for enhanced preventive and containment measures to contain the novel coronavirus amid extreme rising of Covid-19 cases in the country.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Co-Chairperson of the Taskforce, Dr. John Phuka.
According to Phuka, Malawi has seen the total number of coronavirus doubling in the past two weeks from 600 that occurred in the first 77 days from 2nd April to 18th June to 1402 with about 802 new cases for the past 14 days.
The Taskforce also noted that the number of new cases arising from local transition have surpassed that of new cases from other countries and has therefore asked all Malawians to regard everyone as a potential carrier of the disease since out of 10 people infected with coronavirus 8 do not feel sick.
Out of the 57 locally transmitted infections, Phuka said 23 are from Mzuzu (four are healthcare workers), 12 from Chitipa (two are healthcare workers), 11 from Lilongwe, four from Mchinji (three are healthcare workers), three from Blantyre and one each from Mulanje, Mzimba South (a healthcare worker), Rumphi and Zomba.
Phuka also said the other three cases under investigation and they are notably from Blantyre, Mangochi, and Mzuzu and. He has reminded everyone to observe social distancing, wash hands frequently and wear face masks and coughing appropriately at all times.
The Taskforce has also said a review will be done next week to determine whether schools can open or not.
