BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—The TNM Super League defending champions, Silver Strikers, have sent warning to the top three title contenders by saying that they still have mathematical chances of defending the title.
The Bankers are on position 8 with 22 points, trailing the top three teams –Blue Eagles, Moyale Barracks, Big Bullets- with 18 points.
In an interview with the local papers coach Stain Chirwa says the defending champions would fight to the wire.
“We have not given up on defending the title, there is still a long way to go and we still have the mathematical chances of winning the league this season. We know it will be tough but we will fight hard,” said Chirwa.
Chirwa also said that he is working hard to address the players’ loss of concentration at the dot of regulation time when they are leading.
Silver conceded late goals when they were playing against Bullets and Civo to draw 2-2 and 1-1 respectively.
“I am aware that the players are losing concentration towards the end of the games and we are working hard to rectify that problem. It is not a problem of fitness but it is something about mental thing,” said Chirwa.
The Bankers started the season on minus nine points as a punishment from Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for Balaka incident.
They were also deducted three points for featuring suspended Green Harawa in a league match.
In addition, Silver also lost three points for causing abandonment of league game against Moyale.
