South African boy jailed for 20 years after raping 8 year-old boy

A child rapist has been jailed for 20 years

The Grahamstown high court has sentenced a 21-year-old young man to 20 years imprison for raping 8-year-old boy.

Police spokesperson Capt Bradley Rawlinson confirmed the news in a statement.

Rawlinson said the victim had been sharing a room with the 21-year-old Lombard and his brother last year at the time of the attack.

A report by TimesLIVE indicated that on February 5, 2020 around 9.20pm, the victim’s mother rushed to the room that he was sharing with the rapist after she heard him screaming to see what was wrong and saw her son’s friend running from the house in Umasizakhe, Graaff-Reinet.

The victim’s mother took the young boy to the Graaff-Reinet clinic where it was confirmed that he had been raped.

The suspect was apprehended and pleaded guilty this week.

The commander of Graaff-Reinet Family violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, Capt Theo van Zyl commended Det Sgt Zikile Mathews November for the efforts to see to it that the suspect remained until the time of his sentencing.
