
Veteran journalist, analyst and broadcaster Karima Brown has died from COVID-19 related complications on Thursday, March 4.
The family of late Brown disclosed the news in a statement on Thursday morning.
In the statement, her family expressed their pride in all she achieved in her career.
“We are enormously proud of the fierce determination she had shown, since her early years, to get involved in bringing about a more just, inclusive, and anti-racist SA. This determination also shaped her fearless approach to journalism. She was driven by a conviction that journalism must be in service of justice,” read part of the statement.
According to eNCA anchor Dan Moyane, Brown had been admitted to hospital since February receiving treatment for the virus.
Before her demise, she held many senior positions in the South African media industry, including executive editor for the Independent Group and political editor at Business Day.
She also hosted a number of broadcasting shows, most recently The Fix on eNCA, which aired on Sundays and formerly hosted 702 talk show and another show on CNBC Africa. Brown was also a political commentator.
Scores of people‚ including former public protector Thuli Madonsela‚ Former DA leader Mmusi Maimane, Public works minister Patricia de Lille among others have conveyed their condolences to Brown’s family.
Her employer, eNCA, also hailed her for her contribution to the media industry.
Brown is expected to be laid to rest on Thursday in accordance with Islamic rituals and a small number of invited persons will attend the funeral.
