BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-On Tuesday, February 8, 2022 President Macky Sall of Senegal rewarded each player of the Senegal team a plot of land in the capital city of Darker for crowned the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Champions.
On top of a plot of land, Macky also rewarded 87,000$ to each of the players for the impressive win.
The victory marked Senegal’s first success in the tournament and sparked jubilant celebrations across the capital city of three million people.
A day after the much awaited Victory, Macky declared Monday a Public holiday in the country for the citizens to celebrate their first AFCON victory in history.
On Sunday, Senegal defeated seven- time AFCON winners, Egypt on post-match penalties by 4-2 at Olembe Stadium in Cameroon.
The win was a long time coming for the Terenga Lions who suffered a previous AFCON final defeats in 2019 when they lost the final to Algeria.
Prior to that, Senegal also faced defeat in 2002 when they lost the final on penalties to Cameroon after a goalless draw, having missed his kick in the shoot-out.
Senegal’s President Macky Sall has declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate the senior national football team’s win at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The team on Sunday evening beat Egypt on penalties to win the 2021 edition of the competition held in Cameroon.
Sadio Mane of Senegal started the game with a penalty miss but scored the decisive spot kick as Senegal win 4-2 on penalties.
The victory is their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title, denying Mohamed Salah’s Egypt of another title.
Senegal have not only won their first ever Africa Cup of Nations in their 16th participation in the tournament but they have become the 15th different nation to win the competition.

The president of Senegal, who was in Ethiopia where he attended the just ended African Union Summit, assuming the role as chair of the union, cancelled the last leg of his trip to welcome back the football stars to Senegal on Monday.
President Sall is expected to award the team on Tuesday at the presidential palace, according to public broadcaster RTS television.
Senegal won their first Afcon final after two previous defeats in finals in 2019 and 2002.
There have been wild jubilation all over Senegal by football fans extending deep into the night on Sunday.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Minister, management and staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has congratulated the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, for the good performance in the match against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group B, held in Cameroon on Tuesday night, .
The Ministry says the Flames demonstrated an extraordinary performance during the match saying the draw and the subsequent award of the best player scooped by Flames goalkeeper, Charles Thom were as result of tactical and splendid play on the part of the Flames.
In a statement of congratulating the Flames for a wonderful performance signed by the Secretary for Youth and Sports, Oliver Kumbambe, the Ministry says with the performance, “Malawians can confidently say that the future of football in Malawi is bright and Malawi stand a better chance at AFCON given the Flames’ current performance.
“We therefore encourage the Flames to continue working hard at AFCON knowing that all Malawians are rallying behind our National team with pride and patriotism,” reads part of the congratulatory message.
The Ministry says it will continue to monitor and provide all necessary support to the Flames in a bid to ensuring the development of football in Malawi.
Muvi wa Chilungamo pressure group Commander in Chief and Pioneer of Mindset Change project, Bantu Saunders Jumah, encouraged the Flames players to change their mental attitude saying everything is possible.
“Success is at their door step, the one who thinks can win, win, positive change with mindset change blanketing the whole Malawi, no more defeats, Malawi will win,” he said.
Jumah said Malawi has not won any of the competition, the whole country lost confidence and trust in supporting the Flames that it can bring positive results until the team changed its mental attitude to beat Zimbabwe and settled for a goal-less draw with Africa’s recognized champion, Senegal.
“Let us depart from the attitude of negativity to positivity, no nation, no people no citizen will change if there cannot be positive thinking,” reads Jumah’s words of encouragements to the Flames on the wall.
Substitute goalkeeper, Charles Thom who went to Cameroon with no name will come back home with a name as many football scouts will be looking for his signature to play as a professional player in a foreign country.
Thom managed to save the Flames several times through his incredible performance denying Senegal with a dozen of professional players based in Europe with no chance of scoring and it was no wonder that he was named and crown player of the match between Malawi and Senegal.
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has promised to give K1 million to each player who will play today game against Senegal and K500, 000 to each payer who will be on reserve during the game, if Malawi proceeds to the next round of the current Africa Cup of Nations tournament currently underway in Cameroon.
This is according to a press release issued through presidential press secretary, Anthony Kasunda, on January 17, 2022.
“The President pledges to honour each member of the Flames who will play in the Group B qualifiers match with K1 million, while the reserve squad will be honoured with MK500, 000 each,” reads the statement in part.
Meanwhile, Malawians have reacted to the development differently. While some commend Chakwera for the gesture, other have wondered where he is taking such money, bearing in mind that recently, he also dished out K10 million to a needy university student.
“This is very commendable, Mr President. Keep up the good work,” wrote one John Tebulo on Facebook.
On the contrary, veteran writer and social media influencer, Idriss Ali Nassah wrote: “Where, then, is President Chakwera getting the millions he is now throwing around like confetti at a wedding? Because our presidents place this burden on themselves to act like Father Christmas, they open themselves to receiving cash and gifts from “well-wishers”. That, there, is how presidents get entanged in corruption, kickbacks and rot. But it must end because it is problematic and because it is a slippery slope.”

Malawi is today expected to take on Senegal after defeating the Warriors of Zimbabwe 2-1 on Friday last week.
YAOUNDE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi National Football team, the Flames is ready to scotch Zimbabwe in its second match tonight following clearance of key players from COVID-19.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Thursday, January 13, 2022 announced that as per the CAF 2021 AFCON pre-match protocols the Flames players and officials underwent a Covid-19 PCR test on Wednesday afternoon, 48 hours before the team’s second group B match against Zimbabwe.
All the 28 players have tested negative and are available for selection for today’s Match.
Head of delegation Tiya Somba Banda said: “We are delighted that all the players have been cleared.
”We would like to thank our medical team for their effort and dedication in taking care of the team. We now have a full squad and look forward to Thursday’s training which will bring together the whole squad for the first time.
“It’s a timely boost so that we have all the players available for the Zimbabwe game which is a must win for us to remain in contention for a place in the knock-out stages.”
The Flames had 15 players only for their first game against Guinea on Monday which they lost 1-0 as six players tested positive for COVID-19 while two others were still in Saudi Arabia.
FAM has also brought in five players who were on Reserve list to boost the squad.
On Monday, January 10, 2022 Malawi lost to Guinea, one nil despite outstanding performance.
Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga is the first female to officiate at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament.
Mukansanga was part of the officiating team for the group B game between Guinea and Malawi on Monday at Stade Kouekong.
She however served as the fourth official on the day – a first for a woman in the men’s game.
Mukansanga will be making her official debut referring as a woman on Monday at the men’s tournament taking place in Cameroon this year.
The 33rd edition of the AFCON was postponed from last year due to the COVID19 pandemic.

⭐️🇷🇼 Rwandan referee Salima Mukansanga becomes the first woman to officiate at AFCON. Previously, she was at the Olympics, Women’s WC, Africa Women’s Cup of Nations & the CAF Women’s Champs League.
The 33-year-old has in the past officiated matches at the Fifa Women’s World Cup and Olympic games with her recent being the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Mukansanga has also officiated at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) Women’s Champions League.
Back in her home country she has also officiated games between the top men’s teams.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Contrary to what happened in 2010 in Angola when Malawi National Football Team under Kinnah Phiri defeated Algeria by three goals to nil in their opening game.
On Monday, January 10, 2022, the Flames lost to Guinea by a goal to nil in Cameroon,the lone goal scored by Siagga Sylla at 35th minute in the first half.
It was a game in which both teams tried to make attacks,but Flames looked inferior especially at the midfield where Chimwemwe Idana and John Banda was playing giving Guinea some rooms to move freely.
Malawi had several chances which they failed to convert into goals through, Yamikani Chester, Peter Banda, Limbikani Mzava and Richard Mbulu.
First forty five minutes ended Flames trailing by a goal to nil despite them creating more chances thanks to Guinea goalie Aly Keita who made beautiful saves.
Second half Guinea tried their way to find another goal as Malawi was busy searching for an equalizer but the efforts from both sides did not yield anything until the last whistle came in to confirm that the Flames have been frozen by the Guineas.
Malawi was depleted due to COVID-19 which forced Mwase to still keep in a field of play the under-performing players. Zebron Kalima made his debut towards the end of the game.
Ernest Kakhobwe was better than he has been in the past games as he made some brilliant saves to avoid his team from conceding more goals.
Dennis Chembezi was also down as he was improvised to play as a left back.
Senegal and Guinea have collected maximum points in their group B opening games while Zimbabwe and Malawi have failed to do so,and the two meet on Friday in a must win game if they are to qualify in the group stages.
Assistant Coach for the Flames, Meck Mwase, was saddened with the defeat as he said his boys created more chances than their counterparts.
Mwase said that his boys played well that is why they were able to create chances.Mwase vowed to prepare for the remaining games and believe the team will do better.

Simba FC winger Peter Banda is expected to leave Dar es Salaam tomorrow to link up with the team at Bora International Airport in Addis Ababa where they will connect to Duwara,Cameroon.
