LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Industrial Relations Court in Lilongwe has on Friday February 11, 2022 thrown out an application by Alexander Kusamba Dzonzi to stop the appointment of Kamkwamba Kumwenda as Electricity Supplier Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM)’s the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Kusamba Dzonzi claimed that he had emerged top on the list of interviewees whilst Kumwenda was second.
Court documents signed by Deputy Chairperson of the Court, Howard Pemba indicate that there was need for a judicial review at the High Court while dismissing the application saying the matter does not fall under the lower court’s jurisdiction.
The decision adds that even if the Court was to have the jurisdiction over the matter there was no evident that Kusamba Dzonzi indeed emerged on top during the interview.
Chairperson of the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament (PAC) Joyce Chitsulo said that given that there are disputes on the appointment of parastatal executives their committee could ably handle that.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The Tonse Alliance administration, under the leadership of Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party, has engaged an extra gear in their ‘clearing the DPP rubble’ campaign with latest being the suspension of Felix Jumbe, acting Chief Executive Officer of the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc).
According to statement released today Wednesday by the Board chairperson of Admarc, Alexander Kausamba Dzonzi, Jumbe has been replaced by Dhlelisile Matanda.
The Board has also suspended director of finance Harold Mwala and director of operations Garnet Gwembere.
Reasons for the suspension have not been explained in the letter.
“The Board is informing the members of staff that Dr. Felix Elia Jumbe has been suspended from acting as the Chief Executive Officer of ADMARC Limited, Mr. Harold Mwala from the position of Director of Finance and Mr. Garnet Gwembere from the position of Director of Operations.
“Following this development, the Board has appointed Mrs. Dhlelisile Matanda Phiri to act in the position of Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gerald Ganizani in the position of Director of Finance and Mr. Michael James Mnenula in the position of Director of Operations,” reads the letter.
The suspension comes a week after President Lazarus Chakwera told the press in Lilongwe that board of directors of various parastatals must act on individuals who were appointed without following the due process, especially on political affiliation to the previous Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration.
Jumbe was once a Malawi Congress Party senior member but dumped it and joined the then ruling DPP after a long period of squabbles with MCP President Chakwera, who is now the Malawi leader.
The suspension of Jumbe also comes barely a day after Tobacco Commission (TC) suspended the deputy Chief Executive Officer Levi Phelani to pave for Ombudsman’s investigations into how he was recruited.
The commission also terminated a contract for Emily Banda Egolet who was Director of Human Resources and Administration because her recruitment did not follow procedures.
The development was confirmed by TC chairperson Harry Mkandawire, who is also second vice president of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) led by Chakwera in the Tonse Alliance led government.
