Mangochi fisherman Missi Bwanali arrested for dousing wife with hot water

MANGOCHI-(MANA)-The Malawi Police in Mangochi have arrested a 30-year-old man, Missi Bwanali for allegedly dousing his wife with hot water in what he says was due to her delay in serving him supper.

The incident happened on April 9 this year at their home in Mpinganjira Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mponda in Mangochi.

Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Amina Daudi on Friday confirmed the incident and the arrest of Bwanali.

She said Bwanali is a fisherman and on April 9 he was returning home while drunk and found his wife Nancy, 32, about to prepare supper.

“The accused shouted at her wife saying she was taking longer to prepare the food which ended into a quarrel between the two,” Daudi said.

Daudi added that in the heat of the argument, Bwanali took a pot of hot water from the fire and poured it onto the face of his wife and later fled.

“Neighbours rushed the wife to Mangochi District Hospital where she was admitted and is currently receiving treatment after sustaining severe facial burns,” said Daudi.

“The suspect has now been arrested and will soon appear before court to answer acts intended to cause grievous harm charges contravening Section 235 of the Penal Code,” she said.

Meanwhile, the police are appealing for couples to settle their disagreements in a peaceful way as opposed to violence.

Chanco student drown in river while on evangelism campaign

ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)-University of Malawi (UNIMA)’s third year law student at Chancellor College (Chanco) was on Saturday, October 16, 2021 drown in Lake Malawi.

Mangochi Police publicist Amina Daudi identified the deceased as 26-year-old Noel Kazembe of Ndola Village, TA Chikowi in Zomba who met the fate in a river in the area of Traditional Authority (T.A) Katuli in the District. .

The police publicist told The Maravi Post that on October 10, Kazembe and fellow students belonging to Seventh Day Adventist Church visited Katuli area for a week-long evangelism campaign.

“On this Saturday, Kazembe and his fellow students went to bath at the said river in preparation for prayers.In the process he stepped on a slippery stone and fell into a deeper part of the river where he drowned.

“His colleagues shouted for help and villagers jumped into the waters and retrieved his body.He was rushed to Katuli Health Centre where he was confirmed to have died of suffocation” says Daudi.

Meanwhile, the dead body has been taken to Mangochi District Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

Two Malawian love-starved men exchange gun bullets over nurse in Mangochi

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-There was drama on Wednesday, night, May 19, 2021 at Mangochi boma when two men exchanged gun bullets over a nurse the two are in love with.

The development comes after the nurse’s got engaged to another man who is abroad for further studies.

This publication understands that Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody one of the two men for the fracas.

The suspected identified as former chairperson of Muhlakho wa Alhomwe, Muchana Mpuluka is police hands for allegedly shooting at a man whom he found at his girlfriend’s house at Mwanyama Village in Mangochi.

Mangochi Police identified the victim as Edward Mbalasa of Mapira Village, T/A Mponda in the district.

Mangochi Police deputy spokesperson, Amina Daudi told The Maravi Post that the victim is in a love affair with a nurse (name withheld) who works at Mangochi District Hospital, who is also in a relationship with Mpuluka.

“On Wednesday night, Mpuluka arrived at his girlfriend’s house, only to find the victim chatting with the woman inside her bedroom,” says police publicist

Daudi said in the course of confrontation, Mpuluka fired some gun shots, injuring the victim on his right foot in the process.

When the victim escaped, Mpuluka allegedly fired some shots at the victim’s vehicle before leaving the scene.

However, Mpuluka handed himself over to Police on Thursday morning, May 20 and he will appear in court tomorrow to face changes of acts intending to cause grievous harm and malicious damage.

12 Mangochi men fined for land encroachment

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The Mangochi first grade Magistrate court on Monday convicted and sentenced 12 Mangochi men with MK50,000 each in default of 24 months with hard labour for being guilty of land encroachment contrary to section 64 (d) of Forest Act.

The convicts have been identified as (1) Saidi Jafali 35yrs (2) Yasin Ayatu 20yrs (3) Adini Amadu 35yrs (4) Mandebvu Asibu 54yrs (5) Eliya Yasin 35yrs (6) Mphatso Juwawo 28yrs (7) Christopher Chakwana 22yrs (8) Yusuf Ali 48yrs (9) Mustafa M’bwana 53yrs (10) Ali Maluwa 65yrs (11) Sharton Saidi adult and Katimbe Yanjesi 30yrs all from T/A Katuli in the district.

According to Mangochi police station publicist Amina Daudi the court heard that on July 28, 2017 at 1300hours Justen Kauwa of Mangochi Forestry department jointly with other law enforcers from Police and National Parks and Wild life conducted patrols in government protected area at Namizimu forest in Mangochi.

Daudi said in the process they found the above mentioned accused persons settled in the forest, destructing vegetation and destroying government natural forest using prohibited tools and weapons like axes, hoes, pit-saw and panga knives. Eventually, the suspects were arrested and also seized their weapons and after appearing in court, all accused persons pleaded guilty as charged.

When passing judgement his worship first grade Magistrate Ronald M’bwana slapped each of them to a sum of K50.000 fine in default 24 months l.H.L in order to serve as a lesson to other would be offenders for encroaching into the prohibited area.

“Meanwhile only two people amongst them paid the fine and the rest are in Prison after failing to pay,” said Daudi.

Malawian father in Mangochi arrested for impregnating own daughter

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in the lake shore district of Mangochi are keeping in custody a 40 year-old man for allegedly raping and impregnating his own 21-year old daughter.

Mangochi Police Station deputy spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspect as Charles Phillip.

The daughter is now six months pregnant.

Daudi told The Maravi Post that the victim’s parents got divorced in Mulanje district and the suspect married another wife in Mangochi district thereafter Philip took the daughter along and started staying together.

The police publicist said soon after the victim finished writing her Malawi School Certificate Examination (MSCE) in July 2016, the stepmother went also on holiday for a day at her parents leaving the father and daughter home alone.

Daudi added that soon after the step mother left for holidays, that day’s night at around 21:00 hours when the daughter was going to sleep the father dragged her to the sitting room and forced himself on her.

She further said although the victim shouted for help nobody came to her rescue as the suspect threatened to deal with anybody who might come to intervene on the matter.

“In the next morning she decided to go to her biological mother in Mulanje but when she was there she didn’t reveal what happened. After staying for a month her mother noticed some changes on her body and she chased her back to her father. Surprisingly the victim was forced to stay with another woman who was a sexual partner of his father in order to conceal the matter.

“Few months later the rumuor started circulating in the village and it took the courage of the members of the community to report the matter to the Police who summoned her, and narrated the whole issue and mentioned her father as the owner of pregnancy.

“Eventually, the victim was taken to Namalaka Health Centre on Friday where medical reports revealed that the daughter was six months pregnant and the father was arrested. The suspect will appear before court to answer the charge of incest which is contrary to section 157 of the Penal code”, said Daudi.

Charles hails from Misanjo Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mabuka in Mulanje district.
