BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP)on Monday, August 28, 2023, ushered in a new leadership, with Reverend Anderson Juma now the General Secretary; Reverend Humphrey Zgambo, the new Moderator; and Reverend Annie Kapinda now holding the position of Vice Synod Moderator.
Juma, of Chiradzulu CCAP, defeated former general secretary Billy Gama by getting 192 votes against the latter’s 186.
Former Moderator Edna Navaya has lost to Zgambo after getting 166 votes, against the victor’s 237.
On the position of Vice Synod Moderator, Reverend Enerst Mpate’s 169 votes did not match up to Kapinda’s 230 votes.
The elections took place at the synod’s 34th Biennial Assembly at St Micheal and All Angels Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre.
The turning down of the appointment of Reverend Billy Gama as a board director of the Lilongwe Water Board is a welcome decision made at the right time.
The Reverend has displayed great wisdom and foresight.
It means Reverend Billy Gama is a man who can see things from the perspective of millions of Malawians.
I like the clarification the Reverend has made regarding his previous statement made on 3 November, 2022 that it was just a joke when he said he wished he could at the MACRA board.
It is exciting that Billy Gama has made his position very clear. This is commendable.
In conclusion, apart from a conflict of interest for the Reverend to be a board chair at MACRA, it would be a sign of selfishness jumping on a sinking ship full of corruption, nepotism and complete failure.
Some problems cannot be solved even if you helped the people in charge of government because they are simply clueless, and without any clear agenda.
In the end you still sink together with such leadership so it’s better they sink alone.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-CCAP cleric and General Secretary for Blantyre Synod, Reverend Dr. Billy Gama has turned down his appointment as a board director of the Lilongwe Water Board, saying he already has a busy office.
Dr. Gama addded that it will also be difficult for him to serve as a director of the Board which he was once its chairperson.
The man of God says it was just a joke, a statement he made on 3 November, 2022 in Blantyre where President Lazarus Chakwera was opening the HHI School of Excellence that he wished he could serve at the MACRA Board.
“Blantyre Synod has a radio station and it could be a conflict of interest for me to be a board chairperson of MACRA,” he says.
Chakwera has also awarded Brown Mpinganjira and Frank Mwenefumbo as chairpersons for Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) and Northern Region Water Board (NRWB).
The duo are political figures heads taken on board aimed at helping Chakwera’s second term bid in 2025.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Blantyre Synod General Secretary Reverend Billy Gama has backed his statement made on Saturday, March 26, 2022 that attracted reactions from Malawians regarding Chakwera ruling Malawi for two terms.
In an interview with Times Radio on Monday, March 28, 2022, Gama said his statement during the graduation ceremony at the University of Blantyre Synod was of the view that the constitution of Malawi permits presidential candidates to run for two terms.
Opportunist Billy Gama
“I said that statement with a clear conscious considering our constitution permits a presidential candidate to run for two terms. It is up to Malawians and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to allow the president Chakwera to run for a second term.
“Anybody can interpret the statement anyhow but I don’t regret saying what I said,” said Gama.
Gama added that Blantyre Synod has always been working in partnership with government in development and his statement does not indicate that he personally desires to see President Chakwera ruling beyond the first term.
He also said his remarks were not an indication that the Synod is endorsing Chakwera’s desire to run for second term but only from his understanding of the constitution of the country. He has distanced himself from any political connection with the president.
Gama’s remarks comes amid ongoing mass criticism on Chakwera presidency over failed promises and crippled economy which has resulted in rising cost of living in the two years in power.
Prior to this, Second Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Harry Mkandawire disclosed that MCP has endorsed Chakwera as its candidate in the 2025 presidential elections.
President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government is failing to meet Malawians expectations coupled with high cost of living just two years in power.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Opportunist Blantyre Synod General Secretary Billy Gama is pushing for President Lazarus Chakwera’s second term despite Malawians unhappy with his leadership.
Blantyre Synod SG Gama made the remarks on Saturday, March 26, 2022 when Chakwera attended graduation ceremony for 18 completed their studies on Master of Arts in Theology from University of Blantyre Synod.
Opportunist Billy Gama
Gama said as theologians are proud of President Chakwera because he has proved that reverends with theological backgrounds can become good presidents in a country.
Gama therefore expressed his desire to see President Chakwera ruling beyond the first five-year term.
“After you have done your second term, tell the world that there are also other theologians who can also be entrusted with the same position,” said Gama.
He added that the president can consider recommending one of the church leaders from the Blantyre Synod.
Chakwera however avoided the issue relating to his second term.
But the president talked about building a new Malawi and the role of universities in inculcating values of hard work, integrity and discipline in those who pass through their halls of learning.
Gama’s remarks come weeks after Second Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Harry Mkandawire said MCP already endorsed Chakwera as its candidate in the 2025 presidential elections.
Chakwera’s Tonse administration is facing public backlash for promises failures coupled with high cost of living two years in power.
Reverend Dr. Billy Gama: Unima council chairperson
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Chairperson of the University of Malawi (Unima) council, Reverend Dr. Billy Gama, has trashed the selection announcement which is in circulation on social media, saying the university council has not yet approved the selection list.
On Wednesday, the social media was awash with tantrums against the Peter Mutharika administration for selecting students into public universities using quota system which the government abolished in February this year.
“The University of Malawi (Unima) is pleased to announce names of candidates who have been admitted into the university to pursue various generic and mature entry programs for the 2020/2021 academic year on non-residential basis. During selection process for generic non-residential students, candidates were admitted first using the equity system of selecting students into public institutions of higher learning,” reads the announcement in part.
However, in a telephone interview with Maravi Post on Wednesday night, Gama distanced the institution from the selection list.
“I don’t remember seeing or approving selection list,” he said.
Commenting on the same on condition of anonymity, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) top official said that the ‘fake’ selection announcement is probably the work of the opposition parties trying to fool Malawians that quota system is still in use despite its abolishment by the government.
In February, Minister of Education Science and Technology, Hon Dr William Susuwele Banda had announced the abolishment of quota system of selecting students in public universities.
The policy of enrolling students into public universities based on the controversial quota system divided the country, raising accusations of the suppression of minorities.
The system, which was based on students’ district of origin, rather than merit alone, had been used for nearly a decade and acted as a form of affirmative action for students from the country’s central and southern regions due to their perceived regional underrepresentation at the country’s public universities.
However, some academics, clergymen and political activists said the system was discriminatory against northerners.
