The hidden secrets behind Jomo’s success as Blantyre City Mayor

Recently, Isaac Jomo Osman’s progress as the mayor of Blantyre city has been noticed by many Malawians.

They appreciate that Jomo has unique background and experience such that he is able to resonate with the local population. Is this really true?

Interestingly, some advocates of Jomo have gone as far as hoping for him to be granted the chance to take on the role of mayor in every city in Malawi.

In the first place, Jomo’s semi-illiteracy has allowed him to connect with a significant portion of Blantyre’s residents who also struggle with formal education.

This relatability has fostered trust and open lines of communication, making it easier for him to understand and address the concerns of his fellow residents.

Furthermore, having been a street kid before, Jomo has firsthand experience of the challenges faced by marginalized groups in the city.

This background gives him a unique perspective on the needs and expectations of Blantyre residents, allowing him to advocate for policies and initiatives that directly benefit those communities.

It is true that Jomo gained experience in management when he was elected as a councillor and later served as the deputy mayor of Blantyre City.

In addition to this, Jomo has also served as a patron for Mtopwa football club, allowing him to demonstrate his strong leadership abilities.

As a result, he has gained widespread recognition and admiration not just within Blantyre city, but beyond its borders as well.

Additionally, Jomo’s origins from the impoverished Mangochi district where the incumbent state president was residing, has the potential of providing him with political leverage and support.

This connection exudes his advantage in securing resources and backing for his initiatives, as well as in navigating the political landscape of the Blantyre city.

Moreover, Jomo’s reputation as a “notorious boy” suggests that he possesses strong negotiation skills and a certain level of street intelligence.

In fact, his ability to relocate vendors without police force indicates that he can effectively mediate conflicts and find solutions that are acceptable to all parties involved, which is crucial for maintaining order and harmony in the city.

With the foregoing, it sounds logical that Jomo has a clear vision and innovative ideas for the future of Blantyre City,

He is actually focusing on practical solutions to local issues, which have the potential of leading to tangible improvements in the city.

They say “Ukaipa dziwa nyimbo”. Therefore, despite being semi-illiterate, it is highly probable that Jomo has made a commitment to learning and personal growth, seeking advice from experts to improve his leadership skills.

In conclusion, Jomo’s background, communication style, and negotiation abilities contribute to his effectiveness as a mayor, allowing him to resonate with the people of Blantyre and address their needs in a meaningful way.

Osman vows to strengthen Bangwe All Stars after tough derby draw

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Bangwe All Stars head coach and club owner, Isaac Jomo Osman, has admitted that the chances of his team returning to Malawi’s top flight league are becoming slimmer but says he is determined to keep the squad intact and reinforce it for next season.

Osman made the remarks on Saturday afternoon after his side failed to collect maximum points in a National Division League derby against Ndirande Stars at Mpira stadium in Blantyre.

The match ended in a goalless draw despite both teams creating several promising opportunities.

Speaking after the final whistle, Osman said many of the players in his squad joined from Ntopwa FC, which has made it difficult for them to quickly blend and fully understand each other’s style of play.

He, however, expressed gratitude for securing at least a single point from the derby.

He explained that Ndirande Stars are currently one of the strongest sides in the division and earning a point against them was a blessing.

Osman added that his focus now is to strengthen the team so they can compete effectively in the next campaign.

The Bangwe All Stars mentor emphasized the need to add more young and energetic players who can bring depth and quality to the squad.

He noted that without proper reinforcements, it will be difficult for the team to challenge for promotion next season.

Meanwhile, Ndirande Stars assistant coach, Robert Daudi, expressed disappointment that his side could not find the back of the net despite creating clear scoring opportunities.

He said the absence of key players played a big role in the result.

Daudi pointed out that players like Justice Zulu, Mayamiko Makasu and Junior were sidelined due to illness, which weakened their attacking power.

He believes the team could have scored if these players were available for selection.

Despite the draw, Daudi praised his squad for showing great fighting spirit and maintaining strong defensive discipline throughout the game.

He said the team will work on improving its finishing in the matches ahead.

The match was tightly contested with both teams displaying determination and tactical awareness.

However the lack of clinical finishing cost both sides the opportunity to collect maximum points.

Bangwe All Stars remain in position six on the log table with 25 points from 18 games played while Ndirande Stars sit in position five with 26 points from the same number of matches.

Jomo’s mayoral victory inspires hope for Blantyre developers

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The election of Councillor Isack Jomo Osman of Bangwe–Ntopwa Ward as the new mayor of Blantyre City has sparked renewed optimism for improved infrastructure among property developers.

Renowned property developer and Pacific Limited Chief Executive Officer, Faisal Aboo, expressed confidence in Osman’s leadership, noting that the new mayor has a deep understanding of the city’s dynamics, having lived in Blantyre for most of his life.

“Jomo is someone who was born, raised, and has spent the better part of his life in Blantyre. We can safely say he is fully aware of the city’s infrastructure challenges,” said Aboo.

Aboo added that if the mayor prioritises the development of shops, office spaces, accommodation apartments, and the road network, the city’s growth could be greatly enhanced.

On his part, Mayor Osman said he has already started engaging property developers to explore strategies for improving infrastructure standards in Blantyre.

“Our aim is to find a win-win situation between infrastructure owners and local business operators who have long complained about the lack of affordable business space,” he said.

Osman further revealed that his office will provide incentives to serious developers who are contributing to changing the city’s landscape.

Blantyre, which comprises the Blantyre and Limbe central business districts, remains Malawi’s commercial hub.

However, inadequate decent business space has led to congestion, affecting commerce in the city.

The rare moment, which took place Tuesday 18 Nomber, 2025, has drawn widespread praise from community members, leaders, and social-welfare advocates who view the gesture as a compassionate and progressive step toward supporting vulnerable young people.

His message to the children was clear: Their present situation does not determine their destiny, and with commitment and self-belief, they can rise above any challenge.

The children listened closely as the mayor encouraged them to avoid destructive behaviors and to distance themselves from influences that may push them deeper into hardship.

He emphasized the value of education, respect, hard work, and good conduct-qualities he described as essential for anyone who wishes to transform their life.

He also assured them that his office remains open for guidance, mentorship, and support whenever they may need it.

As the meeting concluded, Mayor Jomo politely reminded the children to respect the office environment and ensure that nothing went missing as they left.

The remark, although delivered with humor, carried an important lesson about trust, responsibility, and integrity.

The visit has since been celebrated as a groundbreaking effort to build stronger relationships between city leadership and marginalized children-many of whom often feel unseen, unheard, and forgotten in society.
