BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Former mayor Esther Sagawa has formally concluded her tenure as President of the Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA), paving the way for new leadership following elections held in Lilongwe.
In a message shared on her Facebook page, Sagawa confirmed that she had handed over the association’s presidency to Blantyre Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman, who emerged victorious in the leadership race.
She described the transition as a defining moment in her public service journey, noting that it brought her term at the helm of MALGA to an official close.
According to Sagawa, the leadership change represents not only a personal milestone but also a fresh beginning for the association that represents local authorities across the country.
She reflected on her time in office with appreciation, saying it had been a privilege to work with councils nationwide in advancing the local government agenda.
Sagawa used the opportunity to congratulate Osman and his vice president, expressing confidence in their capacity to provide effective leadership.
She further stated that she looks forward to seeing the new team foster stronger cooperation among councils, promote accountability, and drive development initiatives that directly benefit local communities.
The handover marks a smooth transition of leadership within MALGA, reinforcing the importance of continuity and democratic practice in Malawi’s local government system.
