Jeremy Sisto Reveals If FBI’s Jubal Will Be Reprimanded After Fall Finale

FBI’s Jubal Valentine went rogue in the name of protecting his family on the two-part fall finale of the CBS series — but will there be consequences for his actions?

Warning: Spoilers below from FBI season 8, episodes 9 and 10.

“He’s definitely waiting for the call, but I think he might skirt this one because it was such a big win for the agency,” Jeremy Sisto exclusively told Us Weekly of Jubal’s headspace after his controversial actions. “And at the end of the day, we really saved a lot of lives and so I think, in reality, that is going to take precedence, and he’s going to not have to pay consequences.”

During the two-part fall finale, which aired on Monday, December 15, Jubal (Sisto) interrogated a suspect alone in a plastic surgeon’s office after his son, Tyler (Caleb Reese Paul), ended up unconscious in the hospital following an explosion in New York City.

FBI’s Jeremy Sisto Says ‘Scary’ Fall Finale Has Jubal at ‘Center of the Storm’

According to Sisto, 51, the interrogation scene had a few ad-libs, including the moment Jubal pushed his finger into the bad guy’s bullet hole to get answers.

“That was something that wasn’t scripted, but that’s pretty bad. You’re not allowed to do that as an agent,” Sisto said, noting it was “definitely” out of character for ASAC Jubal, who has a strong moral compass.

The actor explained, “We’re making a show that’s exciting, and so we take some liberties,” adding that since the radical accelerationist movement group’s threat was “pretty intense” when Jubal found the assailant, his extreme tactics were somewhat understandable.

During part one of the fall finale, Tyler, who was in the city with a friend, was prompted to go back to the suburbs by Jubal after he learned a terrorist group was planning something detrimental in the Big Apple.

Before Tyler could get in a taxi to leave the city, he spotted two gunmen and called his dad to inform him. Tyler sent his friend home and proceeded to film the gunmen shooting at the responding police before an explosion went off and left him unconscious at the scene.

After rushing to Tyler’s side in the rubble, Jubal met up with his estranged wife at the hospital and she gave him the green light to do whatever was necessary to hunt down the people who hurt their son. That moment inspired Jubal to go a little off script, according to Sisto.

“I think part of that is he was encouraged by Sam … and that was a pretty rare [and] pretty surprising thing to hear coming from her,” the actor told Us. “And so it’s understandable that this person that he’s disappointed so much in, you know his life, you know, through his own demons suddenly is encouraging him to kind of follow some pretty bad instincts, which are using vengeance as a fuel. I think that encouraged him to go farther than he would have.”

‘FBI’ Cast Hints Season 8 Starts With ‘Chaos’ Amid Isobel Death Scare

Sisto noted that Jubal didn’t take that torture sequence “lightly,” and was “pretty upset with himself for going that far.”

“I was on high alert when I read it to be like, ‘Alright, how do we figure out how to tell this story without Jubal losing who he is? How far can he go for the sake of the episode with still holding that character in place?’” Sisto recalled.

The writers seemingly had the same questions, because during part two of the fall finale, Jubal appeared to course correct.

He stopped himself from hurting the first suspect and eventually handed him over to his agents, before joining the team on the ground to find the ringleader, who was planning a gas attack on one of the city’s bridges.

Jubal ultimately is the one who finds the head villain, and instead of leaving him to die from gas exposure, the FBI agent chooses to pull him out to safety.

“That was a very important moment that he comes back around to deciding, you know, that he’s not a rogue crime fighter,” Sisto shared. “He believes in the system. He believes in what he does. He’s dedicated his life to it. It’s part of who he is. So he does come back around.”

That decision to go back to his heroic self — which his son used as inspiration for his college essay before he was injured — is why Sisto told Us Jubal likely won’t have any repercussions for his one bad act during the case.

Sisto added that in real life, an agent would most likely get into trouble for coloring outside the lines, but in Jubal’s case he doesn’t “foresee it” becoming an issue. Plus, Tyler woke up and is in the clear health wise, so Jubal has that positive to focus on.

When it comes to what will happen next for Jubal and the rest of the team when the series resumes in February, Sisto told Us that fans should buckle up.

“There’s one [episode] that was really cool, where the danger hits pretty close to home for all the agents, in a pretty unique way that we have not seen,” he teased. “So that was a really fun episode to shoot.”

The Clueless actor revealed that one episode in the second half of the season will show Jubal “out of the office and into the world” for a “kidnapping situation.”

“It is really reminiscent of, kind of a different type of story [that] might be a little bit more of a Law and Order kind of thing,” Sisto explained. “[I’m] very excited about the shoot.”

FBI returns on CBS Monday, February 23, at 9 p.m. ET.

Renee Zellweger Was Jim Carrey’s ‘Last Great Love’: Romance Rewind

While some of the celebrity relationships from years past ultimately sound like lucky escapes, others make Us feel a little sad. And the romance between Renée Zellweger and Jim Carrey definitely falls into the second category — way back when, it seemed like these two were really in love and a great, quirky match. So, what went wrong? Let’s find out …

How it Began

Yes, of course it started as a movie set romance, or at least a movie set crush — and in this case, the set was 1999’s Me, Myself & Irene. The movie’s producer Bobby Farrelly told People in 2000 that Carrey, then 37, “flipped for her immediately” but Zellweger, then 30, took a little longer to warm up.

“I liked him, a lot, but you’re not going (to the set) for the love connection,” she told CNN in 2000. “When the picture wrapped, we’d spoken a couple of times on the phone and then all those rumors came out that I was dating him. I was so mad. I said, ‘No, it’s not true.’ And then I went home … and I went, ‘God, I do miss him.’”

Courteney Cox’s ‘Most Important Relationship’ Was With Michael Keaton

How Long it Lasted

This one was relatively short-lived, lasting just over a year before they split in 2000. Still, that does mean it spanned two millennia.

And buckle up for one of the cutest stories from the romance: Zellweger was about to shoot the first Bridget Jones movie but, ahead of filming, was getting to know her character by going undercover for an internship at a London publishing company. She later revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that her coworkers thought the new girl was really odd for having a framed picture of Carrey on her desk, only clocking who she really was months later.

How it Ended

In December 2000, publicists for both stars — before they could rely on Instagram to do these kinds of announcements for them — confirmed they had split. “As of a couple of weeks ago, Jim Carrey and Renée Zellweger are no longer in a relationship,” stated Zellweger’s office, adding that the pair wanted different things (in fact, rumors swirled that he wanted a wedding, and she didn’t.) Carrey’s rep added, “It’s a private matter.”

What They Said About Each Other

It sounds like these two were a great influence on each other. “I feel like it’s become much more important for me to have a life and have real human relationships and do my own laundry from time to time and do the menial things I lost touch with when I first became a so-called star,” Carrey told Entertainment Weekly in 2000. “And Renée’s taught me a lot of that too. She’s a very connected person. She thinks having a good time is renting a U-Haul and taking furniture to Texas. She’s real in that way and I absolutely love it.”

Zellweger sounded seriously smitten too. “It was a very unexpected, wonderful thing,” she said in the same interview. “It was just a really natural thing to want to be around each other. And we didn’t see each other for a few months after we finished the picture — or really speak even — and I just noticed his absence significantly.”

What They Say Now

Twenty years after they split, it was clear that Zellweger still took up a lot of space in Carrey’s extremely active brain. He wrote in his book, Memoirs and Misinformation, that the actress was his “last great love” and expanded on this in a 2020 chat with Howard Stern on SiriusXM.

“She definitely was special to me, very special, I think she’s lovely,” he said. When Stern asked if Carrey felt regretful that he had “f***ed that up” and if she had been “the one that got away,” Carrey mused: “I don’t regret, I don’t have those things, but I do appreciate the people that have come through my life for the good that they gave me.”

Key Relationship Takeaways

Both stars have been through an awful lot since their turn of the century romance, with Zellweger now several Bridget Jones movies down and happily settled with presenter Ant Anstead following ill-fated relationships with Bradley Cooper and Jack White, and a brief marriage to country singer Kenny Chesney.

Carrey, meanwhile, dated Jenny McCarthy for five years, as well as tragically losing his on-off girlfriend Cathriona White to suicide in 2015. He’s currently single, and, while his time with Zellweger is now 25 years ago, it’s clear she made a major impression.

Buckle up, make a safety statement: UN launches global campaign to enhance road safety

The United Nations today launched a new global road safety campaign to improve traffic safety and create inclusive, safe and sustainable streets.

Under the motto #MakeASafetyStatement, the campaign will also amplify the core messages of the New Decade of Action for Road Safety.

“Road safety is not high enough on the political agenda in most countries. While we know the remedies to road crashes, action is lagging behind,” said Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety.

“With this campaign, together with the celebrities that are joining us, and our partners JCDecaux and Saatchi & Saatchi, we are trying to revert this and mobilize the political will that is needed to increase actions and financing to save millions of lives,” he added.

Starting in New York, the campaign will run through 2025, reaching approximately 1,000 cities in more than 80 countries through billboards, social media and other platforms.

Thus far, 14 celebrities, including tennis legend Novak Djokovic, Oscar-winning actress and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh, and supermodel Naomi Campbell, have pledged their support to campaign.

Each contributed their own statement, such as “I drive slow” or “I don’t drive under the influence.”

The ‘silent pandemic’

At a press briefing at UN Headquarters in New York, Mr. Todt highlighted that road accidents are the “number one killer” for individuals aged 5 to 29, with the vast majority in low- and middle-income countries.

He noted that each year, 1.2 million people die on the road, and a further 40 to 50 million are injured, many seriously.

“It is a burden for the victims [and] for the family, but it is also a high cost for the countries,” Mr. Todt continued, adding that the “prescriptions” for this issue include education, communication, law enforcement, alongside quality of roads, and vehicles.

Around the world, UN teams are collaborating with governments and organizations to achieve the ambitious goal of halving road-related deaths and injuries by 2030. Here are two examples of their ongoing work.

Guatemala’s road safety challenges and solutions

Guatemala faces significant road safety challenges, with the highest mortality rate in Central America at 12.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2022 alone, 2,176 traffic fatalities were recorded, over half involving motorcycle accidents. This has a profound human and economic cost, straining healthcare resources like Roosevelt Hospital in Guatemala City.

Several factors contribute to this crisis, including poor road conditions, vehicle safety issues, and insufficient enforcement of the National Traffic Law. Additionally, the overlapping mandates of numerous institutions and local traffic police forces hinder effective coordination and enforcement efforts.

To address these challenges, Guatemala’s National Civil Police has implemented prevention campaigns and training sessions, reaching over 570,000 individuals in 2022. The Winter Operational Safety Plan 2023 further aims to mitigate accidents during the rainy season.

The UN is actively supporting these efforts through various agencies. The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) prioritizes staff safety with measures like restricted travel hours and real-time traffic alerts through the SAFER application. They also offer specialized training courses for drivers.

Other UN initiatives include the United Nations Environment Programme’s project to regulate used vehicle imports for safety, the United Nations Office for Project Services’ collaboration with the International Road Assessment Programme to improve road safety management, and the Pan American Health Organization/WHO’s Road Safety Action Priorities framework. UN-Women also contributes by providing technical advice on national policies addressing violence and crime prevention, including road violence. Read more about efforts in Guatemala here.

South Africa champions road Safety through UN-led campaign

The UN Global Campaign for Road Safety, launched in South Africa in May 2024, aims to foster a culture of road safety across the continent. The campaign, supported by the government, private sector partners, and influential figures, focuses on raising awareness and promoting responsible road behavior, particularly among youth.

During the launch UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt, met with South African government officials and road safety stakeholders to strategize on infrastructure development, education, public awareness, vehicle safety, driver behavior, and law enforcement.

A key component of the launch a road safety awareness initiative organized by the South African National Taxi Association Council (SANTACO) at the Bosman Taxi Rank in Pretoria. The collaborative effort between the UN, the Department of Transport, and Jonsson Workwear resulted in the distribution of thousands of high-visibility belts to taxi drivers and the public, emphasizing the importance of visibility for safety.

The campaign also highlighted the need for legislation on urban speed limits and child restraint systems, with the UN Road Safety Fund providing capacity-building support to the government in these areas. The distribution of helmets to drivers in Johannesburg, led by TotalEnergies, further demonstrated the commitment to protecting vulnerable road users.

The #MakeASafetyStatement campaign in South Africa, encompassing collaboration with government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities, exemplifies the UN’s multi-faceted approach to improving road safety. These concrete actions aim to reduce road fatalities and injuries, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. More information about the launch is available here
