LOP wants MDF soldiers to guard the Parliament

By Dorica Mtenje

LILONGWE Maravipost: Despite President Chakwera’s presence, the Malawi Parliament security and police officers were unable to protect the vehicles of Members of Parliament. The opposition leader, George Chaponda, has requested the Malawi Defence Force to take charge.

Chaponda stated in an interview on Thursday, February 27 that the two agencies have failed because the thugs attacked the Parliament while they were present.

According to him, the lives of Parliamentarians are at risk due to the recent attacks and a proper change is required.

On Wednesday, two vehicles belonging to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members, which belong to Members of Parliament for Zomba Malosa, Grace Mkwelepeta, and Members of Parliament for Zomba Chingale, Lonnie Chinjere Phiri, were destroyed by suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth.

Members of Parliament watched a video footage which shows MCP youth first engulfing the vehicle of Zomba Malosa lawmakers, followed by an unknown individual with an MCP logo on his shirt destroying the cars of two members in front of the security officers.

On his part, the leader of the house, Richard Chimwendo Banda said that anyone can wear MCP attire and claim to be part of them.

Chimwendo expressed his disapproval of the violations and requested that the police investigate the matter by utilizing the same CCTV to apprehend the suspects.

Chaponda unleashes scathing attack on Chakwera: “All lies, no truth”

By Twink Jones Gadama

In a blistering assault on President Lazarus Chakwera’s integrity, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda has denounced the President’s recent address to Parliament as a tissue of lies.

Chaponda’s scathing critique has sent shockwaves through the nation’s capital, with many Malawians expressing outrage and disappointment at the President’s alleged dishonesty.

According to Chaponda, Chakwera’s entire address was a fabrication, devoid of even a grain of truth.

The opposition leader’s stinging rebuke has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the President’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

In a statement, Chaponda apologized to citizens who attended the President’s address, saying they had wasted their time listening to lies from their leader.

This apology has been seen as a bold move, underscoring Chaponda’s determination to hold the President accountable for his actions.

Chaponda’s attack on Chakwera’s credibility comes at a time when the President is facing mounting criticism for his administration’s handling of the economy, healthcare, and education.

Many Malawians feel that Chakwera’s government has failed to deliver on its promises, and that the President’s address was a desperate attempt to deflect attention from his administration’s shortcomings.

The opposition leader’s remarks have been welcomed by many Malawians, who see them as a long-overdue challenge to the President’s authority.

However, others have expressed concern that Chaponda’s attack may be seen as overly partisan, and that it may undermine the President’s ability to govern effectively.

As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: Chaponda’s assault on Chakwera’s credibility has struck a nerve, and it has sparked a long-overdue conversation about the President’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Chakwera’s administration has faced criticism for its handling of several high-profile scandals, including unforgettable COVID-19 vaccine procurement scandal.

These scandals have eroded public trust in the government, and they have raised questions about the President’s ability to lead effectively.

Against this backdrop, Chaponda’s attack on Chakwera’s credibility takes on added significance.

It underscores the opposition leader’s determination to hold the President accountable for his actions, and it highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in government.

As Malawians continue to debate the merits of Chaponda’s attack, one thing is clear: the opposition leader has struck a nerve, and he has sparked a long-overdue conversation about the President’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Only time will tell how this debate will play out, but one thing is certain: Chaponda’s assault on Chakwera’s credibility has marked a turning point in the nation’s politics, and it has set the stage for a more intense and more contentious debate about the future of Malawi.

Nankhumwa addressing the press in Lilongwe

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Power struggle continues raging in former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as some senior officials in the party are conniving to block Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also the current leader of opposition to contest as a presidential candidate for the party in the forth coming convention.

Our investigative reporter has uncovered the report which is alleging Hon George Chaponda Bright Msaka, Sam Tembenu in collaboration with Brown Mpinganjira and Council Charles Mhango are master minders of the plot.

The party structures is in favor of Nankhumwa to take over from Former President Peter Mutharika.

Sources within the party told this publication that “All these senior officials are confidently sure they can’t beat him through the convention.

“In realization of this fact, they have decided to come up with empty accusations and fabricated lies to dismiss and fire him from the party as a member and an official”.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2020 the summoned Nankhumwa, for a disciplinary hearing at Golden Peacock in Lilongwe.

According to a letter signed by the party’s disciplinary committee secretary Charles Mhango, some of the charges leveled against Nankhumwa include imposing himself as leader of opposition when Peter Mutharik had reportedly settled for George Chaponda, misleading the party’s president and plotting a revolt, meeting Malawi Congress official without getting consent from the president and his questionable background and academic qualifications.

Sources added that the summon was meant to scare Nankhumwa’s political muscles in the party.

Inexplicably Mutharika replaces Nankhumwa with Chaponda as Leader of Opposition in Malawi Parliament

Ousted President-Peter-Mutharika appoints Chaponda as Leader of Opposition

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Some things will never change. Former Malawi Presidentr and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Peter Mutharika has replaced Kondwani Nankhumwa with his friend and contemporary George Chaponda as Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

We can reveal that Mutharika made the surprise changes Monday evening when Nankhumwa was already named Leader of Opposition earlier in the day.

“Mutharika has opted for Chaponda to be Leader of Opposition in Parliament and this will be announced tomorrow (today, June 30, 2020) in Parliament. This has shocked everyone,” said our impeccable source close to the DPP hierarchy.

Chaponda is seen as Mutharika’s ‘best friend and contemporary’ and was booted out of the race to replace Mutharika a few years ago after he was implicated in the maize gate scandal only to be cleared by the courts later.

Nankhumwa replaced Chaponda as Leader of the House when Chaponda was fired from cabinet although Mutharika resisted his removal.

Many DPP supporters feel Nankhumwa is the politician who can sanitize the party following its ouster from government during the June 23 fresh presidential elections.

Other supporters are worried that Chaponda’s appointment as Leader of Opposition will further divide the party.

Mutharika lost to Dr Lazarus Chakera under Tonse banner in the just ended fresh presidential elections held on June 23, 2020.

Dr. George Chaponda’s Un-edited response to Maize-Gate

George Chaponda
Chaponda: At the center of Zambia maize Gate has a full defense of Action taken

The past week has seen a media frenzy on the so called maize gate being sourced from Zambia by the Agriculture Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC.) The statements in the media have linked the maize purchase to my name as a stakeholder in supposed underhand dealings for myself interest (corruption)

I have decided to release this Press Statement to inform the General Public on what I know about the importation of maize from the Republic of Zambia by the Government of Malawi through the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC). At the outset, let me report that, my involvement was minimal as the main buyer of the maize was ADMARC and not the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development. As most of you, may be aware, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development oversees the operations of some parastatals including ADMARC. While the Ministry focuses on providing policy direction and guidance, the parastatals manage day to day operational issues of their institutions and they are answerable to their Boards.
