Machinga man jailed 12 years for defiling stepdaughter
MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)-Machinga First Grade Magistrate Johns Masula on Thursday, convicted and sentenced a forty-five year old-man to 12 years in jail with hard labor, for defiling his sixteen-year-old stepdaughter.
Machinga Police station spokesperson Davie Sulumba, identified the convict as Kanyenga Damson, who married Margret Iman and whom he found with four children, including the victim.

MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)- A ferocious buffalo, that escaped from Liwonde National Park in Machinga district, on Wednesday killed a 44-year old small-scale farmer.
Machinga Police station spokesperson Davie Sulumba, identified the deceased as Steward Mapanga who met the terrible fate at a cassava garden during the morning hours.
Sulumba told the Maravi Post that whilst there, a woman who was harvesting her maize in a nearby fiel, shouted a warning call for the deceased to take caution and seek cover.
The woman alerted the late Mapanga that a wild animal was running towards them and luckily, they managed to hide themselves, and the wild animal passed by.
The police publicist added that the deceased however, followed the animal and he recognized that it was a buffalo. Unfortunately in no time, the beast turned to attack and it severely injured him in the process.
Sulumba said Mapanga sustained a deep cut on the stomach and was taken to Chikweo Health Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“Postmortem conducted at the Health facility revealed that death was due to severe loss of blood. The matter was reported to the game officials with an aim of tracking the animal back to the protected area.
“However local residents had no patience to wait for the hMe rangers. They mounted a search themselves, and after they managed to kill the animal, they scrambled for its meat,” Sulumba said.
The late Mapanga hailed from Matchina village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Chikweo in Machinga district.
Police arrest 40-year old man for defiling his two step-daughters over get-rich rituals
MACHINGA-(Maravi Post)- The Malawi Police in Machinga, on Thursday arrested 40-year old Fadwerk Kamadzi, for allegedly defiling his two step daughters ages of five and 17 years. The accused works as a driver for ADRA Malawi.Kamadzi is married to a 35-year old woman, who brought two daughters to the marriage that took place in 2007.
Machinga Police station spokesperson Davie Sulumba, told The Maravi Post that in 2012, Kamadzi took advantage of staying with the two step-daughters, and convinced his wife that if he could sleep with one of the step-daughters, they could get rich. The proposal appealed to the wife and she agreed and proceeded to persuade her daughters into the act; and they eventually accepted.
Sulumba said the suspect started to defile his step-daughters from 2012 up to 2016, after which he also started sleeping with the younger step-daughter after the wife and elder step-daughter were at their home of origin, in Blantyre.
Kamadzi’s arrest suspect is a result of he breaking the agreement he had with the wife. This was that he would only sleep with one daughter for the ritual; but Kamadzi started sleeping with the other step-daughter.
Upon arrival from home village, the mother realized that the suspect was cheating she, therefore, told her children to stop having sex with their father. The suspect was not pleased with this new development and it caused tensions in the family.
“The situation got worse and eventually the mother reported the matter to church officials who advised them to be patient. Being tired of the patience call from the church, the 17-year old victim, reported the matter to Liwonde police.
“Follow up was made, the victims were interviewed and sent to Machinga District Hospital for examination, where it was confirmed that they had been defiled.
“Kamadzi was arrested on April 6, 2017, and admitted to the charge of defilement, which is in conflict with section 138 of the Penal code,” said Sulumba.
The suspect Kamadzi comes from Gawani village, Traditional Authority (T.A.) Njema, in Mulanje district
MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi court in the eastern district of Machinga has sentenced a 25-year-old man to a 40-month-jail term for being found guilty of indecent assault and malicious damage.
Machinga Police Station Spokesperson Davie Sulumba has identified the convict as Gilbert John who committed the offence contrary to Sections 137 and 344 of the Penal code, respectively.
According to Sulumba the court heard that the convict, on January 10 this year, went to Likwenu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) where he had indecently assaulted a 19-year-old Form 4 student by fondling her breasts and buttocks.
Man to spend 40 months in jail for indecent assault
The police publicist said John sexually assaulted the girl while serving her school punishment , and that the convict went further damaging the school property such as plastic chairs valued at MK3,000, claiming that the school owned him money for the job he did in the past.
“The convict pleaded guilty to both charges during the trial. Although Gilbert pleaded for forgiveness, Second Grade Magistrate Maxwell Boazi slapped him with a 40-month-prison sentence for indecent assault and 9-month-sentence for the malicious damage which will run concurrently.
“In the ruling Magistrate Boazi argued that the sentence would act as a lesson to other would-be offenders”, said Sulumba.
John hails from Nkalo Village in Traditional Authority (T.A) Nkula in Machinga district.
MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in the eastern district of Machinga are keeping in custody three men for allegedly trafficking 18 Malawians to Mozambique where they were expected to be working in the farms.purportedly to work in farms.
Machinga Police Station Spokesperson Davie Sulumba has identified the trio as Mailosi Wines, 42, Haji Gilemu, 41 and Tenesi Kamanga, 42 who committed the crime in the district contrary to section 79 of Child Care, Protection and Justice Act.
Sulumba said that the first (Mailosi) and Second (Haji) suspects met the third (Tenesi) suspect who was looking for people to work in his farms in Mozambique.
Sulumba added that on August 23 this month, the third suspect took 18 victims, nine of them were boys of about 14-16 years, five were kids aged between two and five while four were adults whom were taken from Traditional Authorities (T.As) Nkoola and Chikweo.
“On August 24, they started their journey to Mozambique. But upon arriving at Nayuchi in the process of Stamping their note books at Sub T/A Mchinguza for proper process of travelling documents at immigration, Sub T/A Mchinguza got suspicious with the age of the victims eventually he informed the police.
“Following the tip off, police officers apprehended the suspects and detained the victims. All the suspects are in our custody pending court appearance to answer charges of Child and Human Trafficking which is contrary to section 79 of Child Care, Protection and Justice Act,” said Sulumba.
The police are therefore advising guardians not to allow their kids to work in farms for it is against the law of Malawi Government.
Both Mailosi Wines and Tenesi Kamanga hail from Mponda and Nyungo villages and T/A Nkoola and Kalonga respectively in Machinga district while Haji Gilemu comes from Mulute village Mecanhelas in Mozambique.
