Malawi’s irritated Dowa mob demolishes two houses over child sexual abuse allegations

DOWA-(MaraviPost)-Irritated mob in Dowa on Sunday, April 4, 2021 demolished two houses belonging to the family of a 20-year-old man  who is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old child at Traditional Authority (T.A) Chakhaza.

Mponela police spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino said the man identified as Richard Baziliyo from Longwe Village is suspected to have abducted the child on March 27.

The two were reportedly living as man and wife and when the girl’s relatives heard the issue, they stormed the man’s village

Two houses including that of Richard were completely demolished and two more were partly damaged. Richard’s father was also severely injured.

Police officers from Mponela Police Station thereafter intervened in restoring peace in the village.

Three women and five men have been arrested in connection to the matter. The suspects have been identified as Polina Phiri, 45, Grace Kangulu, 27, Abgail Fusileni, 22, Manifuledi Kangulu, 58, Sydney Kangulu, 24, Dominick Kangulu, 20, Chaola Mwandira, 34 and Yamikani Chikankheni aged 18.

Some of the suspects will answer malicious damage charges while others have been arrested for unlawful wounding.

The police have however launched a manhunt to arrest Richard Baziliyo who is still on the run.

Baziliyo is expected to answer a defilement charge.

Mchinji elderly man commits suicide after wife denied him conjugal rights

An 82-year old year old man, Benson Feremu Mphepo in Mchinji committed suicide by hanging to the roof of his shelter after his wife denied him conjugal rights, police has confirmed.

According to Mchinji Police Station spokesperson Inspector Kaitano Lubrino, the development occurred on Tuesday night.

In the suicidal note, found in the decreased’ pocket, claims that he was tired with the behavior of his wife who persistently denied him to sleep as husband and wife.

The note also said that the deceased was further infuriated with the mysterious missing of his cash amounting to MK2 million from his house.

The Mchinji district police spokesperson said that the wife to the deceased (name withheld) told Mchinji Police Station that her husband woke up during the night between 12th and 13th February 2018 without her knowledge while she was fast asleep.

She said she was surprised to discover next morning that her husband was hanging dead on the roof of one of the shelters within their compound at Robert 2 village in the area of Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji.

An autopsy conducted by Mchinji District Healthy experts has revealed the cause of death was suffocation due to strangulation.

Benson feremu Mphepo hailed from Kachipanda village, T/A Mabvere, in Mchinji.

This is a second incident to register at Mchinji Police Station within a period of one week in the district. Earlier this past week, a 35-year old man Chikumbutso Eliya, in fear of justice chose to take his life by hanging after he was caught red-handed stealing school properties at Chimteka Community Day Secondary School.

Meanwhile the police in Mchinji have condemned the act, and is advising the public that whenever they have issues they should find other avenues for solutions other than killing oneself.

MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)– renown Malawi musician, John Malunga is under police custody in the boarder district of Mchinji, for allegedly selling counterfeit products.

Mchinji Police Station spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino, told The Maravi Post that Malunga was on contract with C & NF, a Mulanje-based company which produces and sells Ruo Body Cleaner (Ufa wa mbatata).
The company hired the suspect to promote and sell their product, considering his talent and fame as a musician, he could do a better marketing job of the products.

Zambian national arrested for illegal importing ivory

MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in the border district of Mchinji, arrested a twenty-six-year-old Zambian national for illegal importing ivory.

Mchinji Police Station Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino, identified the suspect as Nelson Goma, who was arrested along Mkanda-Mchinji Road, after police successfully followed a tip from a member of the community.
