Manhunt underway for killers of 5-year-old Brian Alabi in Malawi

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police Service in Mangochi are hunting for the individuals responsible for the brutal murder of 5-year-old Brian Alabi.

Speaking with MaraviPost Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi, says the young boy’s body was discovered buried in a garden near his home in Mkwesa Village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi.

Daudi added that Brian was left playing with other children while his mother and neighbors were tending to their vegetable gardens.

When Brian’s mother, Latifa Bilutoni, returned home, he was nowhere to be found.

A search party was organized, with the help of village elders and community members, but initial efforts proved futile.

It was not until the next morning that Brian’s body was discovered.

A dog was seen barking and digging in a nearby garden, leading villagers to investigate further.

Upon closer inspection, human fingers were seen protruding from the soil, and the body was later confirmed to be that of Brian.

The police were quick to respond, and officers from Chiponde Police Unit, accompanied by a clinical officer from Chiponde Health Centre, rushed to the scene.

The body was exhumed, and multiple injuries were observed, including a tightly tied cloth around the neck, punctured eyes, and bleeding from the nose and mouth.

A postmortem examination revealed that Brian died from strangulation, secondary to a twisted neck and head injuries.

The police have launched a manhunt and are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.

Heartless Malawi’s Mangochi police officers brutally hack teenage boy while in cell

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-A 13-year-old boy in Mangochi is nursing a deep cut wound on his hand which he is said to have sustained while being beaten by an officer at Chiponde police Unit who was using a Panga Knife.

Mother to the boy, Annie Shaibu, told this publication on Saturday, morning, August 21, 2021 that their son was picked on 8th August 2021, for suspecting to have stolen a mobile phone.

Shaibu also claimed that a police officer who was interrogating him used a panga knife to beat him and in the process hacked him.

Mangochi Police Station Spokesperson, Amina Tepani Daudi, has confirmed the incident saying the station received the complaint.

Daudi added that the station is also investigating police officers on the matter.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s court has convicted and sentenced Dickson Lanjesi, 27, a teacher at Mtamila Full Primary School, for nearly sending his ex-wife to the early grave.

According to Mangochi Police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi, Mangochi Police Prosecutor Sub Inspector Emmanuel Kambwiri told the court that the couple divorced in December 2020.

This did not go down well with the convict who started sending intimidating messages to the ex-wife who is also a teacher at Mtengeza Primary School.

 Prosecutor Kambwiri added that during the month of March 2021, the two were counseled at Mangochi Police Victim Support Unit for the same after the ex-wife lodged a complaint and Lanjesi promised to change his behavior.

He failed to make good his promise and visited the ex-wife without her knowledge.

He found her sitting on the veranda and immediately he produced a knife and stabbed her on the neck before he escaped.

The victim was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where she battled for her life for 2 months.

The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station leading to Lanjesi’s arrest.

Appearing in court, the accused person pleaded guilty to the charges of intimidation and acts intended to cause grievous harm contrary to Sections 88 and 235 of the Penal code, respectively.

In his mitigation, Lanjesi asked for the court’s leniency saying that he was a teacher and his career would be ruined if sent to prison.

The state quashed his plea, justifying that his intentions were evil and could have cost an innocent person’s life hence he deserved a custodial sentence.

When passing judgement, Senior Resident Magistrate Joshua Nkhono concurred with the state and sentenced him to 18 months for the first count of intimidation and 36 months for the second count and both sentences to run concurrently.

British National commits suicide in Mangochi

A 70-year-old British National identified as David Henry Graves has died after hanging himself with a rope to a roof in the kitchen.

The incident occurred on the wee hours of June 7, 2021 at Michesi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.

According to the deceased’s wife, Jane Rex, 34, in the afternoon of June 6, 2021 as usual she went out for drinking with friends and left the husband at home.

She came back totally drunk in the wee hours of the next day and went straight to bed, but was awaken by their son in the morning who informed her that he saw his father hanging to the roof of the kitchen.

The wife rushed to the kitchen where she found her husband lifeless. After checking her phone, she found a suicide message which was sent to her by her husband before taking his own life.

According to the suicide note, the British National was complaining about his wife’s tendency of going out frequently leaving him at home alone and he felt neglected.

“Darling, my true love being out drinking and coming late appears to be more important to you than any promise you made to me, it seems that you respect a bottle of beer more than you respect me. l cannot trust anything that you promised me anymore, we won’t be able to discuss this as that’s when sunami jane appears. I can’t just leave this way,” reads part of the suicide note.

The matter was reported at Koche Police Unit who rushed to the scene and took the dead body to Koche Health Centre where suffocation has been indicated as the cause of death.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to convey the dead body to Lilongwe area 18 cemetery where burial will take place. Police are therefore appealing to the public to refrain from taking their own lives whenever they face challenges in life.

They should rather seek help or talk to someone about it.

Four armed robbers arrested in Mangochi

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The Mangochi police station is keeping in custody four suspects for an offence of armed robbery contrary to section 301 of penal code.

Mangochi police spokesperson Rodrick Maida said the four culprits stormed a shop belonging to a Rwandan Businessman, John Maisha with a pistol which inside Soko bus deport within Mangochi Township.

Maida added that the incidence occurred around 2100Hrs of the 13th December, 2017.

The suspects forced the victim’s wife to surrender K124,000.00 cash and airtime voucher worth K15,000.00, according to Maida.

“When trying to arrest the suspects, Maida said one of the suspects shot the owner of the shop on the chest and then run away towards Metro Shop where he met a bicycle taxi operator identified as Steven Yona of 19 years old of Village Mgundaphiri Traditional Authority Mponda in the district of Mangochi who also tried to arrest the culprit but unfortunately he was also shot near the abdomen,” explained Maida.

Both victims sustained gun wounds and were referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for further medical attention.

The police publicist added that the tips from general public led to arrest of first suspect Gift Sitamba (39) of Village Mponde Traditional Authority Mponde in Nkhota-kota on December 15, 2017 at Liwonde in Machinga and recover one pistol with five live amunitions from his house.

On December 16, 2017 second suspect identified as Thomas Useni (28) of Village Kulumba, Traditiomal Authority Chowe in the district of Mangochi was arrested at Lingamasa in Mangochi.

“On the same day third suspect Aliseni Ali (34) of Village Chomba Traditional Authority Mponda in the district of Mangochi was arrested and recover one pistol with 13 live amunitions from his unregistered Renault saloon motor vehicle.

“While on December 18, 2017, the fourth suspect identified as Muhamad Ali (32) of Village Kwitunji, Traditional Authority Katuli in the district of Mangochi was also arrested at Biriwiri in Ntcheu on his way to South Africa,” he said.

Properties recovered as evidence are K3,000.00 cash, Airtime voucher worth K8,000.00, 2 pistol rifles, 3 magazines and 18 live ammunition.

Meanwhwile police is thanking the general public for furnishing information that led to the arrest of the said four culprits and recovery of some stolen items and offensive weapons.

Suspects will appear before court to answer charges levelled before them.
