Analysts fear civil strife is escalating following May 21 presidential election dispute. The matter is in court.

A social and political commentator Emily Mkamanga pointed out in a newspaper column that the country is facing political violence mostly because of party militia groups, some of whom appear to be free even to display their weapons, such as pangas, in public.

“Of late, there has been a series of mysterious deaths of people connected to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) . One wonders whether or not this is a way of destroying rigging evidence.

“One can only appeal to the government to investigate such mysterious deaths. It must be noted that violence begets violence,” she wrote.

Mkamanga argues that The country needs another ‘Operation Bwezani’ to make sure that no one else is armed, except registered security agents, the army and police.

Malawi currently is on political turmoil following the May 21 disputed polls which the matter in court.

Sidik Mia says MCP government to empower local farmers

By Leo Mkhuwala

Once ushered into government, the country’s main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will focus on empowering local farmers by bettering prices of Agricultural commodities while on the other hand, boost thier capacity to increase crop production, MCP Vice President Sidik Mia has said.

The political giant was speaking last Tuesday during his visit to Blantyre South-West constituency to meet grassroot  leaders.

He said, the current miserable tradition of importing Agro- based commodities like tomato and fruits from other countries will have no room in the forth coming MCP government because the party regards Agriculture as pitoval, just as it is an engine of country’s economy.

Said Mia: “Just as it was during the plentiful days of the late Kamuzu, Malawi will again be associated with bumper harvest and robust economy that will be propelled by sound Agricultural policies and in so doing, empower local our farmers to produce more than enough and sell the surplus at better predictable prices.”

He queried: “How can a country fail to even produce its own fruits like apples and oranges, and instead, depend on imported ones? How can hunger be a permanent song to sing year in year out and yet they claim the economy of the country is on the right track?”

Speaking before Mia, the MCP National Campaign Director, Moses Kunkuyu called on supporters to ignore the few greedy, selfish and unfocused leaders that have bade farewell to MCP.

Said Kumkuyu: “Anyone who has moved out from the mighty MCP is a jackpot leader with a primary interest for their own belly, because those leaders with great intentions for our country Malawi remain in MCP.”

Before distributing party materials to over 2000 grassroot leaders, Mia who was accompanied by his wife Abida, unveiled the parliamentary female candidate for the area, Flonnie Maliro alongside two shadow ward councillors.

He articulated the fact that, his business woman-cum-politician wife, who is also the parliamentary candidate for Chikwawa-Mkombedzi constituency, had accompanied him to render support to her fellow female candidate who was being unveiled.

On a similar errand, Mia was recently in Balaka West where he interacted with over 2000 grassroot leaders and distributed party materials.

MCP VP Mia promises bringing back Malawi’s lost paradise..Dresses Balaka West

Mia in Balaka West

The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is geared to restore the lost glory through re- introducing sound economic policies.

This will lift up the livelihoods of the currently wailing and down pressed Malawians, once voted into power in the next year’s elections.

MCP Vice President Sidik Mia told the party’s area leaders in Balaka West Constituency on Thursday that MCP is the only hope for Malawians beyond May 2019.

All this, according to Mia, will be possible through the most trusted corrupt free and God-fearing combination of the MCP President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, who is the party’s president with a clerical leadership background and him, Sidik Mia, a staunch Muslim as his vice.

“We will revive those  sound policies that Malawians feel so much nalstagia about and in addition, we will introduce the new ones that when bundled together, Malawi will fully translate into a better place to live, once again,” assures MCP VP.

Key of them all, Mia mentioned that, the MCP government will revive the almost dysfunctional health services by ensuring that, the right medical drugs were readily available in hospitals and most importantly, ensure that, patients are rushed to hospital through the increased and most effective ambulance service.

On Agriculture, Mia said MCP will introduce universal subsidy against the current system that only benefit a few leaving the majority in the cold.

He added that, the Agricultural sector will be given a huge priority to ensure that farmers benefit from their sweat and that this will be guaranteed through consistent prediction of prices before harvest.

He also promised the people of Balaka that, their water woes will be a thing of the past, as MCP will greatly focus on the people’s access  to clean water throughout the year.

During the first meeting at Mtsimuke School ground in Chidzungu village, Traditional Authority Nsamala, Mia led in the distribution of party materials to over 1000 area leaders.

In the same manner, at Petulo Village, the political giant distributed party materials to over 500 area leaders.

“This is just a small way of strengthing party structures and its an ongoing exercise,” Mia said in an interview.

In both venues, Mia unveiled the MCP Shadow candidate for the area, Haroon Mia hence urged the leaders to rally their support behind this servant leader who had the welfare of the people of Balaka West at heart.

In his remarks, constituency chairman, Saidi Yasin described the MCP Veep as a “political universal machine” whose political prowess and influence has turned around the polical trend, not only in Balaka but the entire southern region and throughout the country.

Said Yasin when referring to Mia amid applause and ululation: “We are proud of you and I feel so humbled to have this ‘matchini opangira matchini anzake’ literally meaning: ‘the master political machine’ here today and my joy is overflowing.”

He added: “These people have come here in such large numbers because they have known you even before you joined MCP through your works as a fervent Muslim and a charitable man who gives without partiality or favour.”

He therefore acknowledged the support of building materials to churches and mosques that Mia had recently channeled to the area.

Through his interaction with media, Mia trashed the recent rumour that he was joining DPP and described such allegations as “sheer nonsense coming from miserable distractors”.

Making a strong case for MCP

Making a strong case for MCP…

If you ask Muluzi why Malawians should not vote MCP into power, he will cite the cruelty of the MCP as his reasons. He was with the MCP as both the Secretary General and Commander of the Malawi Young Pioneer, but he will try as much as possible to disassociate himself with that era. And these are the same reasons that even Peter Mutharika will give you. Other than that they have no any comparable reasons they can give you to show that their parties have outplayed MCP in terms of development.

MCP Was cruel but which MCP?

MCP ruled during the time of cold war between USSR and USA. During this period the two superpowers were fighting for allies. The western countries paid a blind eye to human right abuses in allied states as long as the states were on their side. Cold war ended, that is one reason that contributed to change in Malawi. Countries that abuse human rights are today sanctioned and punished by World bodies, look at Burma. Malawi today, is a signatory to many human rights bodies such as African Union, UNO; there is no regime that shall ever violate human rights without facing the consequences. It is therefore a big lie to say that when MCP attains power it shall be cruel again, a big fallacy to mislead the uneducated people!

Furthermore, those who were cruel in MCP such as Hertherwick Ntaba, Nicholas Dausi and Bakili Muluzi have joined other parties. Was Lazarus Chakwera part of this cruel team? Was Sidik Mia part of this team? A very big No! It is therefore a fallacy to use past events of MCP to say that it shall repeat them in this human right era, this is why Germany did not win the world cup. The belief that Germany won the cup therefore they will win it in Russia misled many people.

Legacy is ruining development in Malawi

This is one area that has ruined Malawi. It is embroiled in envy and jealousy. The belief that if we extend the facilities of Kamuzu we are promoting his legacy; has retard infrastructure expansion in Malawi. Look at the University of Malawi. Kamuzu built the structures so that whoever wants to extend them has enough room. See how Chancellor College was built, it can accommodate another storey structure over it. Look at the land that Bunda has. But all the parties that came after Kamuzu believe that doing so will be promoting the legacy of Kamuzu. They have gone to get Chinese help and built their own Universities. At the end, they use the same equipment of Polytechnic to teach students at MUST. If all parties that came after Kamuzu had simply swallowed their pride and extend UNIMA structures; by now UNIMA would have been admitting 20,000 to 30,000 students per year. Look, they stopped housing students, feeding them, but intake still remains at 5000. Only MCP will preserve this legacy because it is the party that is associated with these structures. The killing of ADMARC is political than economic. ADMARC is seen as a legacy of Kamuzu and therefore must vanish. Only MCP will sustain ADMARC. Anything that has the legacy of Kamuzu no matter how important it is, no political party in Malawi will maintain it. They will rather build their own stadium and called it Peter Mutharika stadium than maintaining Kamuzu Stadium. A sad mentality indeed. Only MCP will extend and maintain these facilities.

Arrogance and MCP bitter lesson

MCP ruled Malawi with impunity, never did it crossed its mind that power can be lost. It happened in 1994. UDF attained power and Muluzi was invisible. That MCP will finish like curtains he reminded us on daily basis, until he lost power to DPP. DPP lost power for two years and took it back. Today, DPP believes it is invisible. When you hear statements like, “I shall make sure that MCP should not return to power” by Mutharika, this is like he is saying; it is not Malawians who decide a government but him. Such arrogance is made worse when they look at the voting pattern. As long as we are from South, we shall always rule, they believe. MCP is the only party in Malawi that lost power through an election. The UDF believes it lost power because of Muluzi’s miscaculation. MCP has learnt a big lesson that power can be lost, there are no chances that MCP once it gets power it shall be arrogant to Malawians again. More than twenty years in opposition has taught MCP a bitter lesson that power can be lost. Political parties that have not experienced this will be arrogant and attain power through lies because to them; power is coming from the Southern region! A sad mentality indeed, one that shall never develop Malawi.

Chilima ‘The New Bakili Muluzi’

Chilima reminds me of the early 1992 when Muluzi was campaigning. Everything that Muluzi said was biblical truth. We were young and when Muluzi said Kamuzu stole K91 billion, we could think how each Malawian can get K1million from that money. Muluzi roasted Kamuzu in everything, he even alleged that Kamuzu was wasting money in building the new Reserve Bank in Blantyre. Muluzi then promised life, from jobs to better roads, fertilizer, shoes; all lies. Corruption was even worse in Muluzi era that the Danish Embassy had seen it all and packed and go. Chilima must have studied Muluzi. Here is a man who is promising almost everything. Let’s critically look at this; Chilima has promised one million jobs, fine no problem. At the same time Chilima will ease road congestion by introducing trams. Are these trams not going to take away minibus business and in the process lead to job losses in the minibus industry? Are we really critically looking at these manifestos? Chilima is another Bakili Muluzi who when you corner them with critical questions they argue, “We cannot reveal more because our opponents will steal our ideas” Malonda a mphaka otsegula mukafika ku nyumba. This is another Bakili in the making. Parties that promise everything are simply power hungry and Muluzi can testify to this!

Corruption

It is easy to see a party that will be corrupt when it gets into power. Experience is there with the UDF. Parties that are flashy and pompous are either getting more donations or falling into credits. Such parties when they become into power have many people to pay back. This is how corruption arise. Parties that engage in Alliances are even worse, too many people to please. MCP is not flashy, it has structures, it gets funding from government and it is not in any Alliance. MCP has few people to rely on and will not be corrupt, to please who?

Fresh ideas bring new opportunities

Someone wanted to rule for one term. He was so arrogant to the point of telling civil servants demanding salary increase to go and join the private sector, he knew he was only there for one term. Upon realizing that he will contest for second term again he becomes humble and beg the same civil servants their loyalty. What happens when such a person gets a second term in which he knows that age wise and constitutionally are his last term? Will he care?

This is not in any case the views of the editor or Maravipost.

MP Kabwila cement ties with MCP leadership;Mia visits the constituency

SALIMA- (MaraviPost)-The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s  Salima North West legislator, Jessie Kabwila on Tuesday  buried a hatchet with the party’s leadership with the hope of setting a new pace a head of 2019 general elections.
Kabwira has therefore  embraced the party’s president, Lazarus Chakwera, as bonafide leader.
This follows outbursts which Kabwira has been making in the media where she has been failing to recognize the new National Executive Committee (NEC) describing it as illegal.
Kabwira was speaking at Siyasiya in Salima when welcoming  MCP Vice President Sidik Mia during his whistle stop tour of the lakeshore region.
The legislator said she was happy a new chapter is open in the MCP political history.
“We are very happy that today we are opening new chapter in our history because for the past one year the people you are seeing here were not being recognized, ” said Kabwila.
During the tour Mia encouraged the Lakeshore region to go and register in order to vote out the Democratic
Progressive Party (DPP) government which he said has no welfare of people at heart.
He said it is sad that Malawians are struggling to make ends meet and yet there is a government running.
“Go and register in your large numbers so that you have an opportunity to vote these people out,” said Mia.
Apart from Siyasiya in Salima, Mia also stopped at Benga and other various trading centres in Nkhotakota
The MCP Vice President  said Malawi was in an “abyss of despair, yet the corrupt and inept” DPP wanted to portray a rosy picture to long-suffering citizens and the outside world.
MCP has been calling Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to re-register voters in the first phase of the registration due to low turn out in areas deemed to be the party’s stronghold.
