Mozambican, Malawian arrested for illegal Pangolin possession

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mwanza Police station are keeping in custody Mozambican national identified as Zakalia Labias, 32, and Elson Kachulu, 36, a Malawian, for possessing a live pangolin.

According to Mwanza Police station publicist Edwin Kaunda the law enforcers received a tip that at Chiwembu Village, two men were selling a live pangolin.

Kaunda explains, “Following the tip-off, police detectives found the two suspects with the said animal, they were immediately arrested.

“The two suspects will appear in court soon to answer a charge of possession of listed species”

Zakalia Labias comes from Potchera Village, Zobue in Mozambique, whilst Elson Kachulu comes from Chikoleka Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Nthache in Mwanza District.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Mwanza are keeping in custody a 25 year-old woman arrested Flora Nkhoma for engaging in sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old boy at Chikolosa village.

The suspect was arrested on October 18, 2022

According to Mwanza Police Station publicist Edwin Kaunda, Flora fell in love with the young boy in June 2022 and since then the two have been having sexual intercourse.

“The parents discovered on October 16, 2022 that their young boy is having sexual intercourse with Flora and they reported to Mwanza police station.

“Flora got arrested on October 18 and appeared before Mwanza Senior Resident Magistrate Court on October 19 and pleaded not guilty to the charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor,” Kaunda said.

The suspect Flora comes from Ng’onga village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kanduku in Mwanza.

Malawi’s Mwanza man jailed for tampering woman’s private parts

MWANZA-(MaraviPost)-Mwanza Senior Resident Magistrate Court on Monday, August 30, 2021 convicted and sentenced Mike Kaduya to 38 months (three years and two months) imprisonment with labour for accessing woman’s private parts without her consent.

According to Mwanza Police Station publicist Edwin Kaunda the court heard that the victim (name withheld) on July 25, went to Hamaska bottle store at Mwanza border for one or two bottles of beers.

After getting satisfied ,the woman decided to walk home but as she was approaching her house the convict grabbed her and demanded to have sexual intercourse with her but the woman refused.

“The convict was not happy with the response and started accessing the woman’s vagina and breast. The victim cried for help and neighbors came to rescue her.

“Mike was arrested on the same day and appeared before Mwanza Resident Magistrate Court on July 31 this year where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of Indecent assault,” says Kaunda.

The state prosecutor Jane Juma eventually summoned three witnesses who testified against Kaduya.

The police publicist added, “After looking at evidence the court found Mike Kaduya guilty of the charge.In her submissions the prosecutor asked the court to give Mike Kaduya a stiffer punishment to deter others.

“Kaduya in mitigations asked for court’s leniency but Mwanza Senior Resident Magistrate His Worship Andrew Mmanga in passing the sentence agreed with the state prosecutor and gave Mike Kaduya the said jail term.

Mike Kaduya comes from Lipenga village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in Mwanza.

Malawi’s Truck driver in Mwanza arrested for possessing foreign currency illegally

MWANZA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi fiscal police at Mwanza border post are keeping in custody a truck driver for illegally possessing currency.

The arrest follows border police and officers from the fiscal department’s intensive vehicle searching operation on Friday, October 16, 2020.

According to Mwanza Police station publicist Edwin Kaunda during the exercise, the team arrested Josephy Heartwell Chiusi, 45, who works for JB properties after he was found with 750,000 South African rands without documents.

“During interrogations, Josephy told police that he got the cash from Malawians who are returning from the Republic of South Africa.

“The suspect will appear in court soon to answer the charge of being found with foreign currency illegally,” says Kaunda.
