Onjezani Kenani Faces Backlash from Maravi Post Readers Over Criticism of Sameer Suleman

Social media users defend DPP’s Speaker candidate, accusing Kenani of political bias and dismissing his remarks as partisan attacks.

By Burnett Munthali

Maravi Post’s Facebook page has once again sparked heated debate following a post criticizing Sameer Suleman’s suitability for the position of Speaker of Parliament.

The original post stated that Suleman was “not fit for the position of Speaker,” alleging that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was using its political and financial influence to push him forward for selfish reasons rather than for the good of the nation.

The post ended with a call to Members of Parliament, urging them to “act wisely” in their voting decisions.

However, reactions from readers poured in quickly, with many rushing to defend Suleman while turning their criticism toward Onjezani Kenani, whom they accused of being politically biased.

One reader remarked that it is common knowledge that Onjezani Kenani is affiliated with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and therefore harbors resentment toward the DPP.

Another commenter argued that the people had deliberately chosen to vote against the MCP and that Kenani’s opinions would not change the outcome.

Some even hinted that the controversy surrounding Suleman’s candidacy had created fear among certain quarters, referring to it as the “black box” situation.

Several users dismissed the original post as mere political propaganda, accusing Kenani and others aligned with the MCP media team of attempting to tarnish Suleman’s reputation.

“Media team ya congress youma mitu,” one commenter wrote, implying that the MCP media team was out of ideas.

Other users challenged Kenani directly, asking what exactly made Suleman unfit for the Speaker’s role, with one writing, “Iye watani sangakwanitse chani?”—questioning his alleged shortcomings.

Some comments took a more personal tone, mocking Kenani and suggesting that he was only seeking attention.

A few even warned him that his statements could lead to defamation lawsuits, with one saying, “Mumangidwatu nazo za ma defamation! Wayankhulira kutiko zimenezo, Onjezani?”

Another reader accused Kenani of being immature and not ready for political discourse, saying, “Ana mwachepa mukodza simunati.”

A number of commenters praised former President Peter Mutharika, claiming that he remains a capable and wise leader, with one declaring, “Muthalika saphonyatu.”

Some accused Kenani of rushing to criticize without evidence, writing, “Ndiye mwafulumira kulirakotu.”

Others implied that Kenani might have been financially motivated in making his post, asking bluntly, “Iweyo walandila zingati?”

A more spiritual response came from another user who wrote, “Ambuye akukhululukile,” meaning, “May the Lord forgive you.”

Despite the heated exchanges, some readers appeared confident that the DPP would triumph, remarking, “Muchita manyazitu atawina”—suggesting that Kenani would be embarrassed once Suleman wins.

In closing, one commenter summed up the prevailing sentiment among DPP supporters by asking, “Onjezani Kenani, mwayambamso kujiya ya Kongiresi kodi? MCP never.”

The discussion highlights the deep political polarization that continues to define Malawi’s online spaces, where every statement about national leadership quickly turns into a partisan battlefield.

While Onjezani Kenani’s post sought to question Suleman’s fitness for the Speaker position, it instead ignited a wave of reactions that exposed entrenched loyalties and the intense rivalry between Malawi’s two dominant political camps, the DPP and the MCP.

Differing opinions on FB on George Kasakula’s FORCED APOLOGY

It is reported that unauthorized Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets stormed the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC-TV) at Kwacha in Blantyre and forced director general (DG) George Kasakula out of his office in broad daylight.

The DPP loyalists invaded the premises at Kwacha around 10 am, and ignoring the security check at the premises, headed straight to Kasakula’s office.

They demanded that he immediately leave his office, accusing him of disrespecting and insulting President Peter Mutharika during the campaign period.

Staff members were left terrified as the intruders took control of the place.

Kasakula was later forced into the studio, where the cadets demanded that he make a live on-air apology to Mutharika and the entire DPP for his alleged remarks.

“They forced my secretary to give them the code to open my office. Then, they entered my office without notice and forced me out accusing me of insulting the President,” explained Kasakula.

He added: “They introduced themselves as DPP regional youth leaders. But I identified Yona Malunga and Stone Mwamadi. The other one introduced himself as Christopher Jana.”

Kasakula said in a telephone interview yesterday they told him to pack his personal possessions before being forced out of the office.

However, Facebook opinions on this matter differ. While some sympathise with the embattled Kasakula some say he deserved it as he was un-professional in his treatment of the New Malawi President and the first lady.

As a victim of Chakwera’s and Mumba’s people insults, profanity vilification, attacks, I know what those people who confronted Kasakula for an apology felt on behalf of their father. No, I do not condemn them, in fact it should not have taken people to force him to apologize. If he has any decency left in him, he should have done so without being confronted with doing so. I also demand an apology from the uncouth youths who tormented me for 10 years. Waononga Congress with your zealot mentality.

Onjezani Kenani Writes.

Onjezani Kenani,
Onjezani Kenani,

I have just spoken to George. The truth is that Democratic Progressive Party thugs forced him to apologize.

At around ten this morning, his secretary was compelled to open the door to his office. George — who has a valid contract until 2027 and is required to report to work daily — was confronted by seven men. They accused him of insulting President Peter Mutharika and ordered him to pack his personal belongings. They then forced him to lock his office and surrender the keys.

As he walked to his car, the same thugs intercepted him and instructed him to go on live television to apologize to the President. That is why we saw him appear on TV today.

Dear DPP, this nonsense must stop. We are a nation governed by laws, not by fear. In 2020, we voted you out because of this very culture of thuggery and impunity. If you wish to drag us back to those dark days, you will find governance unbearable in the next five years — because we will rise to defend our democracy.

People voted for you to transform lives, not to trample rights. I repeat: this nonsense must stop.

When violence becomes a political strategy

By Burnett Munthali

There’s a troubling assumption at the heart of our politics—that citizens are too naive to notice when they are being played.

The cycle is now familiar: thugs are deployed to terrorize, damage, and create chaos.

Vehicles are left with shattered windows, properties are damaged, and sometimes, people are physically harmed.

Then, as if reading from a well-rehearsed script, politicians appear in public to express outrage.

They condemn the violence with dramatic words, projecting concern that often feels hollow.

Soon after, the police step in to create the illusion of seriousness.

Announcements are made about investigations, arrests are promised, and statements are issued to assure the public that justice will be served.

But we know how it ends—nothing ever changes.

The culprits are never held accountable, and the so-called investigations fade quietly into the background.

Meanwhile, the public is left with fear, frustration, and a sense of betrayal.

This has become the standard playbook: inflict harm, perform condemnation, simulate justice, and repeat.

It’s a shameful, cynical strategy that thrives on impunity.

As Onjezani Kenani pointed out, this is not new—it is a tired narrative that assumes Malawians lack memory, intelligence, or the will to demand better.

But people are watching. They are connecting the dots.

The lies may be loud, but the truth is louder for those who are paying attention.

This country cannot move forward if violence continues to be used as a political tool and justice remains a distant illusion.

It’s time for leaders to stop insulting the intelligence of the people.

What Malawians need is not performative outrage, but real accountability and genuine reform.

Until then, the cycle will continue, and with it, the slow erosion of public trust in those who claim to serve us.

Onjezani Kenani Writes: CSOs Call for Inquiry into Corruption Allegations Against Justice Ken Manda and Push for Reform – “We’re Fixing This Country”

By Burnett Munthali

In his latest piece, social commentator and writer Onjezani Kenani has shed light on growing calls from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for an inquiry into allegations of corruption against Justice Ken Manda and other judicial officers. The allegations, initially raised by Alex, have sparked outrage among activists, prompting demands for an investigation and sweeping reforms within Malawi’s judicial system.

Kenani, known for his bold takes on governance and justice, highlighted that the CSOs are not only focusing on the specific accusations but are also calling for broader institutional reform. “We cannot fix this country without addressing corruption in all its forms, especially within the judiciary,” one CSO representative reportedly stated, echoing the sentiment of many.

Onjezani Kenani,
Onjezani Kenani,

The allegations against Justice Manda, though yet to be fully substantiated, have led to widespread debate about the integrity of Malawi’s judicial system. Corruption within the judiciary has long been a contentious issue, and the accusations have revived calls for an overhaul to restore public confidence.

Kenani’s article emphasizes the need for accountability, quoting various civil society leaders who believe that an inquiry is the first step towards addressing deeper systemic issues. “The judiciary is supposed to be the last hope for justice, but when it becomes tainted by corruption, the entire nation suffers,” Kenani writes.

The CSOs are also pushing for judicial reforms aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency. This includes the implementation of stricter oversight mechanisms, a review of judicial appointments, and the establishment of a more transparent process for dealing with allegations of misconduct.

Kenani’s conclusion captures the growing sense of urgency among activists: “We’re fixing this country,” a phrase now widely used by CSOs in their campaign for reform. It reflects the determination of civil society to root out corruption and rebuild Malawi’s institutions from the ground up.

As the nation awaits official responses from the judiciary and the government, Kenani’s article stands as a clarion call for action, urging Malawians to demand accountability from their leaders and institutions. Whether or not this leads to the kind of sweeping reforms envisioned by the CSOs remains to be seen, but the momentum for change is undeniable.

Scandal brews in Kasungu: Fake Mega-Farm Scheme raises concerns over NEEF funding

By Burnett Munthali

A disturbing scandal is unfolding in Kasungu South-West Constituency, where a purported mega-farm project is at the center of controversy. Onjezani Kenani, a prominent social commentator, has brought to light allegations regarding a fake mega-farm scheme that is set to be funded by the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) to the tune of K400 million.

According to Kenani, the scheme, which is touted as a "mega-farm," covers a mere 10 acres of land—hardly a scale that warrants such a hefty investment. This raises significant questions about the legitimacy of the project and the motives behind it. The term "mega-farm" typically refers to large agricultural operations, often encompassing hundreds or thousands of acres, which makes the claim of a 10-acre farm both misleading and suspicious.

Kenani highlights that two influential individuals, referred to as “nduna ziwiri,” are allegedly behind this scheme. Their involvement in the planning and execution of this project suggests a potential abuse of NEEF funds, which are intended to support genuine economic empowerment initiatives in Malawi. The misuse of these funds not only jeopardizes the integrity of the NEEF program but also undermines the efforts to uplift communities through sustainable agricultural practices.

The implications of such a scandal are far-reaching. If these allegations hold true, it would indicate a troubling trend of corruption and mismanagement within government-funded projects. The public has every right to demand transparency and accountability from those who handle public resources, especially in a country where poverty and unemployment remain significant challenges.

Kenani’s revelations come at a time when trust in public institutions is already waning. Citizens are becoming increasingly aware of the need for vigilance against fraudulent schemes that exploit government programs. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of scrutinizing projects funded by taxpayer money and ensuring that they are implemented for the benefit of the community, rather than for personal gain.

As this scandal continues to unfold, it is crucial for relevant authorities to investigate the claims made by Kenani and ensure that any wrongdoing is addressed promptly. The people of Kasungu and Malawi at large deserve better than to be subjected to scams that undermine genuine development efforts.

In the coming days, as the investigation progresses, the public will be watching closely. This situation not only affects the reputation of those involved but also casts a shadow over the credibility of NEEF and its mission to empower the nation economically. The fight against corruption must be relentless, and the people of Malawi must hold their leaders accountable to safeguard the future of their country.

Kenani, Idriss, Mbele’s unfounded plot against Sattar family is pure personal vendetta, hatred not Malawians interest

By Yamikani Nicholas Kachingwe

When one wants to annihilate a stubborn and unwanted tree for once and for all, they destroy the underground roots of the tree not by plucking the fruits of the tree expecting the tree to die slowly, silently and forever.

I find the reason behind this mobilization of funds to host a demonstration against an individual who in earnest does not hold any appointed or employed public or civil servant position in Malawi extremely baseless, stupid and time-wasting. Simply fruitless. A wishful thinking it is.

I admire the zeal, determination and seemingly patriotic spirit in those who are believed to be organizers of this up-coming event.

Onjezani Kenani, Idriss Ali Nassah and Joshua Chisa Mbele up for personal attack on Sattar family

Onjezani Kenani, Idriss Ali Nassah and Joshua Chisa Mbele are well learned, informed and exposed but am flabbergasted by their recent activities which seem to be ill-advised and missing the appropriate target of their intent.

It appears, trio musketeers are only bent to fight an Asian businessman named Zunneth Sattar who is a Malawian, born and raised in Malawi from an Asian family.

Zunneth late father was among the contractors who built the Kamuzu International Airport under Kamuzu Banda’s administration and contributed to many other infrastructure developments we are able to enjoy and be proud of now.

Their narrative has gone further to display xenophobic and demeaning utterances towards the Asian Business community in Malawi, translating into character assassination as well infringing the rights of the minority. Is this revolution of Anti-Asian Campaign?

My elder Idriss, for a minute he was all over town fighting for the release of expenditure report of Covid-19 funds which has two budgets of MK17 billion and MK6.9 billion.

Both budgets were alleged to have been misused and defrauded by some government employees including those well known to be close associates of Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera.

No Asian Business man was ever alleged or suspected to have partook in the looting. The alleged corrupt acts were perpetrated by ORIGINAL BLACK MALAWIANS. And, the trio never thought it wise to mobilize funds to hold protest against this impunity committed by their fellow black people.

It’s almost 5 months since the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation promised to release the expenditure report of the SADC SUMMIT which was held in Lilongwe funded through taxpayer’s money.

The trio again are silent on this matter or expressed any interest to protest at the Ministry’s office. And the ministry is run and managed by Black Malawians, no single Asian person is employed there.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka built houses on public land in Area 43 and it is a known fact that some statehouse officials stole public land in area 49. These are your fellow black Malawians; will you not protest against them at their offices?

We have several issues happening in the country involving Black Malawians, we have several court cases been heard on corruption charges alleged to have been committed by Black Malawians. The trio once again deem the black Malawians as saints and no need to protest against this impunity.

The Secretary to the government, Zangazanga Chinkhosi is speculated to be involved in several matters in which some people are thinking that it’s the cause of the numerous problems we are currently facing as the nation.

The trio have never for a minute expressed any interest to protest against this impunity at capitol hill were the Office of the President is situated. Is it because Chinkhosi is a black Malawian?

The President of Malawi and his vice during the campaign period promised heaven on earth and after two years there is nothing to write home about. The trio have never for once protested at Kamuzu Palace or at Veep’s residence. Is it because they’re black Malawians?

The Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau was recorded in a whatsApp conversation dishing out unnecessary and disheartening words towards the judges, lawyers and the President including his vice plus the Religious fraternity.

Kenani, Mbele and Adriss have not expressed any intent to ask DG of ACB to apologize or at least to reveal the identity of the person she was conversing with to dig deeper to investigate the people behind this incident. Simply because Martha and her friend are black Malawians?

Ashok sued Martha for her defamatory words upon him. This trio finds it patriotic enough to be intimidating, threatening and calling Ashok with insulting words because he is an Asian. Martha is allowed to say anything because she is a Black Malawian, is this fair justice?

Conclusion

My Elders I beseech you to uproot the tree of corruption, impunity and all bad things by getting down to the bottom of the root cause of this sickening culture. You should be fair, democratic, empathetic and remove any xenophobic attitude. Avoid showing trends of propagating a self-based political agenda.

Zunneth Sattar and associates are individuals working in the private sector, awawa ndi anthu business chabe! They never awarded any contract to themselves it was awarded to them by public or civil servants who are black Malawians, therefore it is wise to expose the names of these enablers/accomplices and you must as well protest at their respective offices.

Why are you only attacking and targeting Sattar leaving behind the people or the institutions he did business with? Does Sattar work at MDF or MPS or immigration department or at any public institution, kodi macontract iwo amazipasa yekha? Enawo simukuwatchula kozi ndi anthu okuda skin?

Pali milandu ya mbili yokhuzana ndi katangale ndipo oganizilidwawo ndi anthu okuda ngati inuyo, bwanji simukuwatchula mayina awo ndikupitaso kuma office awo kukawonetsa kwiyo wanuwo?

I urge you to sit-down and go back to drawing board.

Some of us we cannot participate in such protest that are clearly indicating they’re nothing but racial profiling, xenophobic and fight against one individual.

STANLEY, IDRISS AND JOSHUA.

Let me be frank with you all this is pure SELECTIVE JUSTICE and the impunity you are talking is within you guys. Please remove it, it’s too stinky!

Malawians loved Martha Chizuma but love is waning

……………….As she defies Chakwera’s order on social media friends interaction

By Falles Kamanga

The embattled Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) boss Martha Chizuma seems not taking lessons on mistakes she makes while executing duties.

Following leaked audio in which she was gossiping with someone called Orama Namalomba, Martha propelled assorted accusations against some public officers.

The audio went round to the public in a leaked manner. This angered President Lazarus Chakwera who nearly fired her. But she was warned to cut ties with her social media friends including Onjezani Kenani, Joshua Chisa Mbele, Idris Nassah and others.

Despite the warning, Chizuma is still talking to the social media friends on her office duties which is contravening authorities’ order.

ACB boss Martha Chizuma still talking with social media rat Onjezani Kenani on her office duties (from right)

Just last night, Chizuma’s social media friends have been all over alleging that the ACB boss will be arrested for the said leaked audio.

The news is all over while formidable news outlets are silent on the matter while Kenani, Mbele are busy fabricating the issue for public attention.

Mbele despite charged on the same crime of false fabrications, he is lying to the nation Chakwera Tonse government wants to arrest her for sitting on a long list that has powerful individuals who collected money from Asian businessman.

This is a total lie.  Martha can’t be arrested but instead will be sued for accusing a judge who presided over Ashok Nair application for judicial review case in the leaked audio.

In the audio, Martha alleges that she lost the case because the judge had received bribes to decide the case in favour of the suspect.

Now, it is alleged that the said judge, whose reputation was obviously injured by such allegations, has sued (or is suing) Martha to substantiate her allegations.

Surprisingly, Martha’s social media team, which thinks Martha should informally allege against people with impunity, are of the view that this is a move to arrest her.

Kenani and Mbele are convincing the nation that Martha is not liable to civil accountability for her civil wrongs. But they can’t say under which law(s).

What this shows, clearly, is that Martha did not take her lesson. It reasonably appears she is still talking to his social media team of which spirits are more of a mob in character, perhaps advocating for public sympathy towards her.

Martha who is currently at mercy of the president to be fired for compromising her work is still conniving with social media friends.

Malawians loved Martha but now the love is waning. The trust is gone completely.

Malawi’s graft boss Martha Chizuma is up for something fishy!

Chizuma: Martha is not conversant with the laws of Malawi and its sovereignty she is doing things ignorantly

By Professor Wanangwa Mwanyongo

Reading from the Attorneys General’s press statement released yesterday one would tell that Martha Chizuma is up for something fishy and serving the interests of some people masquerading as British officials whose interest is to do security weapons business and replace the Sattars.

The AG has exposed how emotional is Martha handling issues and she is doing everything alone without consulting the Attorney General for guidance.

Martha is not conversant with the laws of Malawi and its sovereignty she is doing things ignorantly. Malawi is a sovereign state as such no any foreign security can come and start getting security information or arresting people any how. There must be a MOU between countries for such on operation to take place in a country. Attorney General only learnt all these via social media meaning he was not officially informed by ACB and Martha.

AG THAMBO NYIRENDA: He has exposed how emotional Martha is in handling issues

One wonders what powers does Martha Chizuma use to arrest people like Ashok. This arrest is unlawful as the press statement of the AG clearly shows the AG wasn’t aware. He had just seen the investigation being discussed on social media.

NCA UK had travelled to Malawi and were escorted with ACB officers to Ashoks house. They were present at Ashok’s house to search and seize any property that would relay to Zuneth Sattar or his business. Then Ashok on the same day was taken to ACB offices in Lilongwe for further questioning.

According to Law, the NCA officer should not have been present in the room where the interview was in record with Ashok SREEDHARAN, but NCA officers were the ones whispering to the ACB officers asking them to ask Ashok such questions.

This is clearly and straight forward that this whole operation has been unlawful and non of the evidence obtained can be presented in court as it has not been obtained lawfully.

After the statement Onjezani Kenani was happy and applauded the AG, and few minutes later he changed his writings after Martha called him and said Achimwene this statement is not good for us and ma plan athu sathekaso and please speak against it and Onjezani started immediately.
