Malawi’s health ministry in mandatory Covid-19 testing for Super League teams

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Health has embarked on mandatory Covid-19 testing for all super league footballers for free in the run up to the 2020 Super league kick off next month.

Speaking after a meeting of officials from the Ministry of Health, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19, Spokesperson in the Ministry of Health, Joshua Malango, confirmed that it is for all Super league players to be tested for Covid-19 for free only that each football club will be asked to pay something to the medical personnel conducting the exercise.

“We received a request that maybe we can help with the cost of the superleague teams only. We will do the testing for free but there is a fee which the teams will be meeting. This is a transportation cost as well as an allowance for our laboratory guys who will be going to take the samples of all team officials and players,” Malango explained.

On Thursday, Be Forward Wanderers and Mighty Tigers Football Clubs had their players tested for the virus after Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers Football Clubs conducted their own Covid-19 testing a couple of weeks earlier.

The 2020 TNM Superleague season is yet to kick off on the 21st day of November following its call off in March this year due Presidential order then to cancel all public events, including sports, to prevent the spread of Corona Virus.
