In a heart-wrenching display of emotion, Thyolo Thava Member of Parliament Mary Navicha has called on all Malawians, particularly women, to put aside their political differences and come together to mourn the passing of their fellow woman, the late Joyce Chitsulo, MP for Mwanza West.
“Let us put politics aside and mourn this great woman who has left an indelible mark on our nation,” Navicha said, her voice trembling with grief. “Joyce Chitsulo was a woman who loved women’s programs, both in church and community. She was a born leader, and her professionalism shone brightly as the chairperson of the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament.”
Navicha, visibly shaken, recalled fond memories of her time with Chitsulo, describing her as a loving granny who adored her grandson Joshua.

“Every time she posted on WhatsApp, she would say ‘Agogo a Joshua’ (grandmother of Joshua). It was a testament to her love for her family,” Navicha said, tears streaming down her face.
The MP also shared a personal anecdote about their time together at Malamulo SDA Church in Thyolo, where they bonded as fellow women in leadership.
“As an opposition leader in Parliament, I had the privilege of working with Joyce, and I must say, we had some good times together. She was a woman of great spirit and dedication,” Navicha reminisced.
Navicha concluded her heartfelt tribute by urging Malawians to join her in mourning the loss of this remarkable woman.
“Let us mourn for her. We will miss her a lot. She may be gone, but her legacy will live on in our hearts,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion.
As the nation mourns the loss of Joyce Chitsulo, Mary Navicha’s emotional tribute serves as a reminder of the impact this remarkable woman had on those who knew her.
Her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire women in Malawi to strive for greatness.
