Chakwera saddened with Chitsulo death, calls for unity in mourning

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed sadness over the passing of Deputy Local Government Minister Joyce Chitsulo.

The late Chitsulo died on Friday morning, June 6, 2025 at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where she taken after she collapsed at her home, Area 25 in the capital Lilongwe.

In his condolences message, President Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera say the late Chitsulo advanced development over party politics.

“The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Chitsulo family, the people of Mwanza West Constituency and all Malawians on the sudden passing of Honourable Joyce Chitsulo, Member of Parliament, today.

“Hon. Chitsulo was, until her death, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Culture and Unity. I knew her as a person whose personal motto and mission was “development over politics” as she would put it, “Sitidya Ndale Koma Chitukuko.” She lived every minute of her political life in pursuit of this golden clarion call that we all need to adopt. It is tragic that such a patriotic and courageous citizen has departed at such a time of our national development,” reads the condolences message in part.

Chakwera urgues, “May her legacy ignite in us the desire to work for the good of our great country regardless of our political, religious, regional and tribal differences.

“May we be united as one people as we mourn the passing of this great daughter of Malawi”.
