Two killed in Dutch army helicopter crash in Aruba

Two people have died following a Dutch army helicopter crashed on Sunday afternoon.

Defence Minister Ank Bijleveld confirmed the tragedy in a statement on Monday July 20.

Reports indicates that the NH-90 helicopter crashed after taking off from the Netherlands Antilles island Aruba with four crew members on board.

The Dutch army commander Rob Bauer during a press conference said attempts were made to resuscitate the two soldiers but the two of the four crew members died on the spot.

Washington post has identified the two victims as Lieutenant Christine Martens, 34, and Erwin Warnies, 34, tactical coordinator and the other two have come out without serious injuries.

Commenting on the matter, Prime Minister Mark Rutte has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

Investigations are still underway to establish the cause of the accident.
