LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The United Transformation Movement (UTM) is in full swing preparing for its upcoming mega rally scheduled to take place at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe on Sunday, 11 May 2025.
Party officials and supporters have begun constructing a massive stage, which is expected to be the centerpiece of the event.
The rally, one of the largest political gatherings planned by UTM this year, is being seen as a strategic move to boost the party’s visibility and consolidate support ahead of the 2025 general elections.
Preparations at the venue have intensified, with decorators, sound technicians, and security teams all working round the clock to ensure everything is in place before the big day.
Dozens of party flags and banners are being erected across the ground, giving the space a vibrant red-and-white ambiance symbolic of the UTM brand.
According to insiders within the party, the rally will feature powerful speeches from UTM’s senior leadership, including interim party president Michael Usi, who is expected to articulate the party’s vision and policy agenda moving forward.
Various entertainment acts, including popular musicians and cultural groups, have also been lined up to energize the crowd and maintain high spirits throughout the day.
Party supporters from across the Central Region and other parts of the country are reportedly mobilizing in large numbers to attend the event, with buses and minibuses being arranged to ferry people to Lilongwe.
Security has also been tightened at and around Masintha Ground, with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers deployed to ensure the safety of all attendees.
The police and UTM’s internal security teams have already begun joint operations to monitor the area and prevent any form of violence or disruption.
The significance of the rally extends beyond just speeches and music; it is widely expected to be a test of UTM’s grassroots support following the passing of its founding president, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, in 2024.
Observers note that this will be UTM’s first major public event under new leadership, marking a crucial turning point in the party’s rebranding and future direction.
Political analysts say the turnout and reception at Masintha could send strong signals about the party’s standing ahead of coalition talks or potential electoral alliances.
With only months left before the next election cycle begins in earnest, UTM appears keen to position itself as a key player in the political arena, particularly among the youth and urban voters.
As the countdown to Sunday continues, anticipation is building both within and outside party ranks, with eyes set on how the rally will shape the political narrative in the weeks to come.
