Ntcheu, December 29: Government has expressed shock over the death of Traditional Authority (T/A) Phambala of Ntcheu who died Friday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after a short illness.
In his eulogy on Saturday, as he witnessed the arrival of the remains of late T/A Phambala at his Mtonda Headquarters, the Vice President, Saulosi Chilima said government is concerned with the death of Chief Phambala.
“Traditional Chief Phambala was development oriented, and as government, we are sad to lose such a hardworking chief,” said Chilima.
Chilima said the late Traditional Authority Phambala had a very good vision for his subjects and that he has demonstrated to be apolitical throughout his reign.
Also speaking on the passing away of the chief, Senior Chief Makwangwala commended the late Phambala for working hard to bring electricity in his area.
“This achievement among others is enough evidence that the late T/A Phambala had a vision to improve livelihoods of his subjects,” said Makwangwala.
Makwangwala said there have been unity and peace in the area during the reign of late T/A Phambala.
“The late T/A Phambala besides being a traditional leader, he also had special interest in education. He went up to the University Malawi and worked in several companies,” said Makwangwala.
A brother to late T/A Phambala, Victor Phambala said people in the area will live remembering the establishment of Crown Company in the area which has created employment to several people in the area.
“He fought hard for the establishment of the company to create an alternative source of income for his subjects who used to depend on charcoal making thereby destroying trees,” said Victor Phambala.
The late TA Phambala who is survived by a wife, three children and one grandchild was buried on Sunday at his Mtonda Headquarters in Ntcheu.
