Friends of the Malawi’s firstlady Gertrude Mutharika have raised the money that was given to BEAM and according to reports have gone through proper channels to refund NAC in the hope of avoiding demonstrations scheduled for the 13th of January 2015.
The activists have demanded Mrs. Mutharika to refund to NAC the MK5 million that BEAM got, saying her charity does not tackle programmes related to HIV and AIDS.
Now that the refund has been confirmed for all to see, they appear to be moving the goal posts.
“We know that the money the business people wanted to refund on behalf of Beam is associated with a lot of suspicions. We know there is a bigger hand behind all this. We are not just looking for the money to be refunded, this must be clarified. We also want to be assured that this malpractice will never happen again.
“I think its an insult to the Malawians for someone to just work up and says I will refund the money on behalf of the Beam, I’m suspecting something to have happened.” Mtambo explained. . However
rumors coming from the Mutharika camp naming names of demonstrations funders and leaders cannot be confirmed by Maravipost. However we are at a loss to see the reason to continue with the planned demonstrations.
We are inviting the leaders of the activists to write our Editor at editor@maravipost.com.to justify their reasons for carrying on with the demonstrations.
