Malawi to embark on compulsory basic education

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi government through the Ministry of Education will embark on improving the education sector through the implementation of compulsory basic education.

Minister of Education Agnes Nyalonje disclosed this on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 when addressing the media in the capital Lilongwe.

Nyalonje said the major budget proportion of MK462 billion will help the Ministry to recruit more teachers and construct additional classroom blocks to implement the compulsory basic education program in the country.

She also assured Malawians that the construction of 3 Teachers Training College (TTC) Chikwawa TTC , Mchinji TTC and rumphi TTC, currently underway, will be completed this year August.

The minister has however expressed concerns over high repetition of learners in primary schools and the survival rate which indicates that the survival rate for girls is lower than that of boys.
