Chakwera leaves Egypt amid fuel crisis

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Without shame and remorse on Malawians sufferings, President Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday morning November 5, 2022 sneaked out of the country for Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt for 27th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) summit.

Chakwera’s departure was without live coverage on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) as is normally the case.

According to State House sources, instructions were given to the State Broadcaster, MBC not to send its Outside Broadcasting crew to avoid amplifying negative publicity that the Egypt trip has generated amid the fuel crisis that has brought the country down on its knees.

MCP supporters were also advised to stay away from escorting the President and seeing him off at the airport.

MBC only sent its reporters to cover Chakwer’s departure for news only as instructed.

Saulos Chilima, his deputy saw Chakwera off to Egypt

Chakwera left the country through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) as the trip has drawn negative criticism where people are questioning its significance to the country amid the fuel and forex shortage that has turned Malawi into a failed state under Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance administration.
