LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Blue Eagles Reserve FC on Wednesday 18th October 2023 thumped Chatoloma ADMARC FC 5-1 at Nankhaka Stadium to book a round of 16 slot of the Central Region MK23 million Nyasa Capital Finance Cup.
Both teams started on a high note from the onset as they searched for early goals which could see them granted Nyasa Capital Finance education loan.
Chatoloma’s Godfrey Sibale posed a threat to the Eagles as he could easily penetrate and take shots at the home goal.
Innocent Chanache however marked him well as he was always first on the ball, denying Sibale from causing havoc on Leonard Mwakwinja’s goal.
Umar Mustapha who scored three goals in the encounter broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after he cleverly beat visitors’ defenders before sending the goalkeeper in the opposite direction with a powerful strike in the 18-yard box.
Chatoloma made an early change in the 31st minute as they introduced Dickson Nyondo and took off Lusungu Chipeta in the 37th minute Chanache made another superb clearance from Godfrey Sibale’s threat in the box. Sibale came again at 42nd minute but defender Chanache was equally ready for the task.
Chatoloma could have leveled matters in the 44th minute as Vincent Nyirenda sent a dangerous ball into the Eagles box only to find none of his teammates. Soon the referee blew to end the first stanza.
In the 55th minute, Umar Mustapha registered his second goal with a simple tap-in after Chatoloma failed to defend a corner kick.
Young Eagles made substitutions in the 65th minute as Maxwell Mbewe and Evance Mitengo came in for Ishmael Allison and Chimwemwe Katumwe while Chatoloma brought in Demo Sambo for Henry Kaunda.
Umar Mustapha for the Eagles completed his hat trick in the 67th minute from a rebound that originated from a corner kick.
Chatoloma ADMARC reduced the deficit through Laston Pingeni who scored with a beautiful header from a well-taken corner kick by substitute Demo Sambo.
Demo Sambo however received a yellow card in the 74th minute for a bad tackle on Checkson Alinzi. Francis Chikuse Phiri replaced Godfrey Sibale in the 75th minute.
80 minutes on the dot, Blue Eagles Reserve substitute Evance Mitengo scored a beauty to put the game far from Chatoloma’s reach.
As delaying tactics Ackim Kazombo coach for the Eagles substituted a hat trick hero Umar Mustapha who got injured and goalkeeper Leonard Makwinja for Moffat Manase and Kelvin Samalani.
In the 88th minute, another substitute Maxwell Mbewe netted the 5th goal for Eagles Reserve. Blue Eagles made a final change at 90th plus 2 added minutes as Ganizani Witness replaced Checkson Alinzi and soon the match ended.
It was confirmed that Blue Eagles RSV FC have been granted Nyasa capital Finance education loan as they are set to date Santhe ADMARC FC in the round of 16 who were awarded victory as opponents Kamba FC did not show up at Kamuzu Barracks ground.
Silver Strikers Reserve was also granted the loan after successfully fulfilling the requirements by defeating Mangoni Warriors FC 1-0 at ADL ground courtesy of Malizani Kalima’s goal.
Simbi FC stutter Play Football Malawi 3-0 at Guillaume ground with goals from Junior Chance, Victor Kafuwa and Chisomo Peter.
Chisomo Academy booked a round of 16 places after clashing with Nsaru United FC 8-2 in Kasungu. Chifundo Nkhonjera netted a hat trick with other goals scored by Hope Siu, Esau Kamtoseni, Augustine Banda, and MacDonald Chima’s brace while Nsaru United goals came from Akidu Justin and Yamikani Andrew.
Mbabzi United FC eliminated LUANAR FC after a 4-5 penalty shoot-out victory after a goalless stalemate in regulation time at Mbabzi ground. Jopeson Jali, Lengani Saidi, Ignacio Makoloni, Maulana Mustafa and Innocent Ndidndi concerted their kicks while Michael Nyirenda, McDonald Chiwanda, Philip Mtika and Abdul Razack converted for LUANAR FC.
So far 26 goals have been scored in 8 rounds of 32 games in the central region. One game involving Mbabzi United FC and LUANAR went into penalty shootouts.
Nine (9) teams have qualified for the round of 16 of the Nyasa Capital Finance Cup, as follows, Airborne Rangers FC, Silver Strikers Reserve FC, Blue Eagles RSV FC, Simbi FC, Chisomo Academy FC, Mbabzi United FC, Mitundu Baptist FC and Santhe ADMARC FC.
Blue Eagles RSV FC will play against Santhe ADMARC FC in round 16, and Mitundu Baptist FC will face a winner between Kamuzu Barracks RSV FC and Leyman Panthers. Silver Strikers Reserve will be against Carotyte FC and Shamma FC.
Simbi FC from Mchinji will entertain a winner between Wimbe United FC and Dedza Young Soccer FC, and Chisomo Academy FC face Spearhead or Namitete Zitha FC.
