LILONGWE Maravipost: Deputy Minister of Transport Stevie Màlondera has promised to bring 300 bags of maize to Ntchisi, which has been affected by hunger, as a first step.
Malondera made the remarks on Sunday, March 16 during the Ntchisi East rally in the constituency of Benard Chitekwe at Kalambe ground.
He mentioned that the government will buy tobacco on UDS3.5 this year as a means of empowering farmers.
Malondera was replying to Chitekwe’s request for government assistance in the food shortage that has plagued the area.
Chitekwe has requested the government to take into account the lives of Ntchisi people who are battling to have food every day.
Chitekwe urged the minister to consider gravel roads for the constituency since the roads are in poor condition.
He adds that people are looking for a good health center as they walk long distances to access medical care.
Joyce Chitsulo, the deputy minister of local government, stated that the government was not able to implement several developments because other teams in the Tonse alliance were implementing barriers to prevent people from evaluating Chakwera as a failure.
Chitsulo said the government has increased the honorarium for chiefs in the upcoming budget from MK10,000 to MK20,000 as one way of honoring them amidst economic challenges.
She assured the nation that Chakwera’s development is everywhere as she is a living testimony of the developments that are happening in the southern region, especially in Mwanza.
