Football legend Peterkins Kayira has been elected as the new president of the Darts Association of Malawi (DAM).

The election took place during an elective general assembly at Civo Club House in Lilongwe, where Kayira was elected unopposed.

Kayira will be deputised by Memory Manjawira, while Victor Chawinga will serve as the secretary general and Charles Mughogho as the treasurer.

The new committee is expected to lead the association for the next term, working to promote and develop the sport of darts in Malawi.

Malawi National Council of Sports (MNSC) sports officer for the Central Region, Fanny Phiri, presided over the elections and advised the new committee to work as a team. “I urge you to work as one,” she said, adding that, “You have been entrusted with this responsibility because the delegates have expectations. Prove to them that you can take darts to another level.”

Phiri also emphasized the importance of investing in the youth and starting at the grassroots level. “But for the sport to grow, you have to invest in the youth,” she said, adding that, “You must start at grassroots. Work with Malawi School Sports Association to introduce the sport in schools across the country.”

In his acceptance speech, Kayira promised to work hard to lift the sport and find sponsorship.

“I will work to develop the game and also find sponsors,” he said, adding that, “My committee will also be transparent and accountable to the members.”

Kayira’s election as president of DAM is a significant development for the sport, given his experience and reputation in football.

His leadership skills and ability to work with others will be crucial in promoting and developing darts in Malawi.

The new committee faces several challenges as it takes over the leadership of DAM. One of the key priorities will be to promote the sport and attract new players, particularly among the youth.

The committee will also need to work to secure sponsorship and funding to support the development of darts in Malawi.

Despite these challenges, the new committee is well-positioned to take DAM forward.

With Kayira’s leadership and the support of his team, the association is likely to make significant progress in promoting and developing the sport of darts in Malawi.

The introduction of darts in schools across the country is a key area of focus for the new committee.

By working with the Malawi School Sports Association, DAM can promote the sport among young people and identify talented players who can represent Malawi in national and international competitions.

Peterkins Kayira’s election as president of DAM marks a new chapter for the sport of darts in Malawi.

With his leadership and the support of his team, the association is poised to make significant progress in promoting and developing the sport.

The new committee’s commitment to transparency and accountability will be crucial in ensuring the success of DAM and the growth of darts in Malawi.
