The Ministry of Trade and Industry has officially launched the Malawi National Single Window System, a digital platform aimed at streamlining cross-border trade and enhancing transparency in the sector.
The system is designed to reduce paperwork, processing time, and licensing costs, making trade more efficient for Malawian businesses.
Minister of Trade, Vitumbiko Mumba, highlighted the benefits of the digitalized system at the launch event in Lilongwe, stating that it will significantly reduce processing times for import and export permits. “The new system will reduce processing times from 14 days or more to just a few minutes,” Mumba said.
This reduction in permit processing time is expected to greatly benefit traders, allowing them to access goods and services more quickly.
The Malawi National Single Window platform is a digital trade facilitation system that simplifies the import and export processes in Malawi.

Timothy Nyirongo, Head of Operations at Chipiku Stores, welcomed the development, saying it will ease some of the challenges the company previously faced in obtaining import and export permits.
“This new system will make a huge difference for us,” Nyirongo said, adding that,”We’ll be able to get the permits we need quickly and efficiently, which will help us to better serve our customers.”
