BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-The Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) has identified a knowledge gap among consumers as a major obstacle to the growth of the renewable energy industry.

Speaking during this year’s Malawi Energy Week in Lilongwe on Wednesday,REIAMA President Brave Mhonie, said increasing consumer awareness through exhibitions and other means is crucial to bridging this gap.

“We want people to know that sector actors exist and that they can find a lot of these technologies in Malawi; they just need to know where they can find them,” said Mhonie.

He emphasized the need for investment in consumer education to promote the adoption of renewable energy products.

On his part,Chief Energy Officer in the Ministry of Energy, Gift Chiwayula, echoed Mhonie’s sentiment, noting that exhibitions like the one at the energy week will help increase the usage of renewable energy products in the country.

The energy week, launched in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Blantyre, will run until Sunday.
