MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has set its sights on building a stronger national beach soccer team through the newly launched 2025 FAM Beach Soccer Regional Leagues, which officially rolled out on Saturday at Frame Tree Lodge in Chintheche.

FAM Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the Competitions and Marketing Committee, Felister Dossi, said the leagues would serve as a scouting ground to unearth fresh talent from across the country’s five major beach soccer zones Chintheche, Nkhotakota, Karonga, Salima, and Mangochi.

“We were impressed with the level of competition during the National Championship earlier this year, but we believe there is still untapped talent in different parts of the country”, Dossi said.

“These leagues will not only give players a platform to shine but also help us strengthen our national team setup,”Dossi added.

The initiative comes as part of FAM’s Football Transformation Agenda, which aims to expand the reach and quality of the game in Malawi.

To make this possible, FAM has committed MK84 million to the Regional Leagues, with MK30 million allocated as prize money across the five zones.

National Beach Soccer Association Chairperson, Force Ngwira, said the competition will also help in grassroots development.

“This is where unknown names will be discovered and nurtured. We expect a good number of players from here to make it into the national team,” he said.

The leagues have attracted 58 registered teams, whose zonal champions will earn a place in the 2025 National Championship.

The launch event was marked by a lively atmosphere, with Beach Eagles defeating Black Eagles 4-2 in the men’s curtain-raiser match, while Katoto Beach overcame Golden Joggers in a women’s encounter. Traditional dancers from Nkhata Bay also entertained the crowd.
