BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Former President Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) has paid tribute to the late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) at his home village of Nsipe in Ntcheu.
Mutharika described Chilima as a patriotic son of Malawi who dedicated his life to public service and fought for reforms that resonated with many Malawians.
He assured the people of Nsipe that Chilima’s legacy will not be forgotten and that his name will remain an inspiration in the country’s democratic journey.
During his remarks, Mutharika also praised the Gomani Family, describing them as a brave and resilient traditional institution.
He recalled how the Gomani chieftaincy stood firm during the era of the brutal Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regime, refusing to be silenced in the face of oppression.
Mutharika said this spirit of resistance is a reminder to Malawians that freedom and democracy must be defended at all costs.
Turning to the present political and economic situation, Mutharika assured Malawians that from September 16, his administration will reset the economy.
He said Malawians are tired of empty promises and rising poverty, and only the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has the experience and vision to restore economic stability.
Mutharika pledged to prioritize job creation, food security, and fiscal discipline, saying these will be the cornerstones of his government.
He urged Malawians to rally behind the DPP in the forthcoming elections, promising that the party is ready to deliver on its commitments.
Concluding Analysis
Arthur Peter Mutharika’s speech at Nsipe was both a tribute and a political statement.
By honoring Chilima, he tapped into national emotions still raw from the Vice President’s tragic passing.
By praising the Gomani Family, he invoked history to present himself as a defender of freedom.
And by promising an economic reset, he positioned the DPP as the only credible alternative to the ruling party.
Whether these promises resonate with Malawians will be tested at the ballot box on September 16.
