Dowa, July 31, 2015: The Deputy Commissioner of Police Headquarters, who is the head of professional standards unit, Esther Wandale, has said the current administration in the Malawi Police Service, expects high standards of professionalism and objectivity in dealing with corruption among Police officers in the country.

Wandale said the fight against corruption within the Malawi Police Service will be enhanced to bring back and increase the lost public trust in the Police and criminal justice system as a whole.

Speaking during a-day long orientation training of Dowa Police station officers in Anti-corruption Policy, Wandale said policing in democratic community requires the institutionalization of mechanisms that make it possible for individual law enforcement officers to be called to account for their actions.

She said Malawians like to see Police officers that respect universal principles of democracy, human rights, and rule of law, transparency and accountability.

In his remarks, Dowa Police Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tedson Mwamulu, urged members of the community not to pay any police officer for police bail, saying it is free.

Mwamulu appealed to all police officers and community policing forums in the district to love their job rather than money to ensure that the district registers zero corruption.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s, Corruption Prevention officer, Ezilon Kasoka, urged members of the general public to work together in reporting and arresting people involved in corrupt practices saying the battle to fight corruption does not rest in ACB alone.

The Malawi police Anti- Corruption policy is a tool that will be used to implement service-wide efforts against corruption within the Malawi Police officers.

The orientation training was organized with funds from the European Union through NAO support unit.
