Mhub and Master Your Ability groom Malawian artists ahead of 2015 Lake of Stars Festival

The organizers of this year’s Lake of Stars Festival have partnered with Mhub and Master Your Ability to train Malawians artist with their managers on how best their careers and profession can utilize the event in getting global recognition.

The media artist media workshops have been lined up in the major cities of Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu starting on Wednesday, September 2 to 15, 2015 focusing on topics such as networking in the music industry, both online and off-line, media management and creation and management of artist portfolios.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Maravi Post a head of 2015 Lake of Stars Festival slated for 25-27 September, 2015 at Sunbird’s Nkopola Lodge in the lakeshore district of Mangochi, Will Jameson, Lake of Stars’ Director said the training will equip Malawian musicians who are to play during the event with the charisma of
promoting themselves for global stage.

“The Lake of Stars project, whose aim is to promote Malawian arts and culture and also promote Malawi as a tourist destination has produced 10 festivals in Malawi and over 100 events world-wide,. Therefore, we are always looking for ways to maximize the platforms in a bid to increase visibility and share skills with the arts and culture sector
in Malawi.

“Artists are a crucial part to the festival, with no artists there is no festival. We value the contribution local artists bring to the festival which is why we have set up these workshops, firstly staring with is Lilongwe on Wednesday, 2nd September, 2015 then with Blantyre on 9th,, finally Mzuzu on 15th September, 2015.

“The uniqueness of this year’s event is that we have partnered with Mhub and Master Your Ability who are innovative organizations which focus on equipping their clientele with the tools they need to make their initiatives a success. We want to ensure that artists are using their skills to efficiently network in the music industry and take
hold of all the opportunities available at the festival

“One of Mhub’s objectives is to provide technology solutions to the challenges we face in Malawi. Working with Lake of Stars exposes us to the entertainment and tourism sectors. Lake of Stars is better placed to help our innovators understand the sector, develop technology solutions in these sectors and interact with the beneficiaries of
their innovations”, elaborate Jameson.

Echoing on the same Annelies De, Director of Master Your Ability said building the capacity of artists was vital to leverage their opportunities and able to understand the importance of using new media, networking and maintaining a visible presence online.

“The idea is to talk less and do more, so we have tangible out puts at the end of the day. We believe these workshops are an investment for artists’ careers. Knowledge about media management, promotion strategies (on national and international platforms) as well networking opportunities at festivals is in valuable information in the sic industry. We have already confirmed over 20 artists for the workshop in Lilongwe and we are equally excited to register similar numbers in the other two regions.” says Bruine.
