Vendors in Mzuzu the northern green city of Malawi say the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials are stealing their voters registration card numbers trickily.

Speaking to Maravi Post on Sunday, a group of vendors who denied to be named said the party’s director of youths in the northern region, Kelvin Chirambo as well as other officials are behind the move.

According to them, Chirambo told them that they will receive business loan from government which will be given to them but in a group of 40 people.

After formulating the groups, Chirambo then asked them to bring their voters registration card and not national IDs in order to get their numbers as evidence.

“Almost ten groups did that. We all presented our cards at the party’s regional office and they returned later after taking our card numbers, that was last month. Unfortunately nothing positive is coming from their office. Some of the party’s officials revealed to us that the plan was get our card numbers and not the loan issue,” they said.

Adding “We suspect that their plan is to rig the coming elections using our card numbers.”

Chirambo was not picking his mobile phone when contacted .
