The Member of Parliament (MP) for Karonga central constituency Frank Mwenefumbo has demanded an apology from the Malawi congress party (MCP) for alleging that the MP was conniving to rig the 2019 elections.
Mwenefumbo’s demand comes a day after he was summoned to appear at the multi party liaison committee to answer allegations from the letter written by MCP that alleged that on the 31st of December the Karonga central MP mobilized people around the district to meet at his Mikoma Lodge to plan on how to rig the upcoming elections.
However speaking in a press conference on Sunday to address the matter Mwenefumbo, said the truth of the matter of that meeting is that on the 31st of December his family organized a get together party to celebrate his wife’s birthday and not what MCP has alleged.
He said, he and his family were shocked and surprised to learn that a family gathering has been miss construed as a rigging process to rig the polls.
“I will not be threatened and undermined by the MCP therefore I will not take this allegations lightly hence demand a written apology form the party,” he warned.
He added, failure to receive an apology within seven days he will therefore take MCP to court for defamation
“I’ve become an icon for change and peace in my constituent and my opponents know this hence have resulted to coming up with crazy conspiracy theories to destabilize me but I’m not shaken and I will forge on,” Mwenefumbo Vowed.
Reacting to Mwenefumbo’s ultimatum MCP district governor Emmanuel Nkhoma who allegedly filed the letter, was non committal on whether they plan to apologize for the content of the letter.
“We have nothing to apologize for as we fought there was something suspicious going on at mikoma Lodge during the gathering hence the content of the letters,” he responded.
However Nkhoma’s remarks are in sharp contrast to what he said yesterday during the multi party liaison meeting when he apologised to the Honorable MP during a stormy meeting held at the Karonga district council chamber.
