Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court on 4 January 2016, sentenced Chipiliro Ephraim, aged 30 to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling his 13 year old step daughter to the extent of making her pregnant. This occurred during the month of August, 2015.
What transpired is that, the wife of the convict became pregnant and every time when Chipiliro wanted to have sex with her she was refusing. This prompted the convict start sleeping with the victim. This kept happening until the victim got pregnant. The victim is now 5 months pregnant.
Hearing the case, it was revealed that the victim told her mother about what was happening sometime back before she even got pregnant but her mother advised her not to tell anyone. It is when mother of the victim realised that she was pregnant that she decided to spill the beans.
The convict was recently arrested and appeared before Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement which is contrary to Section 138(1) of the Penal Code. In passing the sentence, His worship, Damiano Banda bemoaned the increase in defilement cases in the district and that people like Chipiliro Ephraim deserve stiff punishment.
Chipiliro Ephraim hails from Chimaimba village, Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa district.
