Malawi court lifts phone-in program ban

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The High court in the capital Lilongwe on Wednesday uplifted the ban by Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) restricting media houses from hosting phone-in programs.

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter applied for an injunction regarding the matter.

Apparently, the High Court has granted MISA-Malawi Chapter the injunction pending judicial review.Mid this year MACRA effected the ban arguing the program was inciting violence as most of the topics discussed in the programs were related to the post-election violence that has been taking place in the country.

Lawyer representing MISA-Malawi John Suzi Banda confirmed the development.
