BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has put on hold the decision to relocate vendors who ply their trade along the roads in the cities and towns of the country.
According to a memorandum from the Principal Secretary of the Ministry to all the Chief Executive Officers and District Commissioners, it is the current political situation in the country that has necessitated the change of the decision.
“I wish to advise that due to the current political situation the country is experiencing, the Minister has directed that the exercise of relocating the vendors to designated places be put on hold until further notice.” Reads the memo in part.
Lately, vendors have been selling their mechandise along the streets and roads of the cities and towns of the country; arguing that the new markets that the Government is building are very small and in some cases their location is too far for the customers.
On Tuesday, vendors at Limbe Market in Blantyre were holding demonstrations in protests against the order to relocate them to a new market.
They are turning the new market down; claiming it is quite small and far from customers.
