BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mbayani 2 primary school has embarked on protecting the environment of the school by planting trees surrounding it.
During the tree planting exercise that took place at the school, head teacher for the School Edson Kalitsiro said was pleased with the timely donation by Umodzi Youth Organization, of the 1000 tree seedlings, as this is a tree planting season.
“We have an Environmental club at the school that shares knowledge on conserving the environment, hence we have managerial skills in taking care of trees”, said Kalitsilo.
He also pointed out that, the tree planting exercise is a good development for both pupils and the surrounding areas, as it will prevent soil erosion in the near future.
Programs Director for Umodzi youth organization (UYO), Shy Ali said supported Mbayani 2 since they saw a need at the school.
Ali disclosed that the school has 2,195 pupils saying the exercise was necessity as trees absorb carbon dioxide hence giving learners suitable air for breathing and making them to concentrate in class.
“It is very important for a school to have a woodland as that helps the environment to be conducive to everyone surrounding the school”, said Ali.
The tree planting project is being supported by the USA-based institution called The Pollination Fund.
