
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly established MwAPATA Institute is geared to critically analyse agriculture policies for meaningful transformation change in Malawi.
The institute plays a leading will be playing a role in identifying strategies that will improve the investment climate, as well as promote agricultural diversification for improving living standards.
As a local think tank, MwAPATA Institute aims at supporting an emerging cadre of policy research experts in defining processes that will strengthening Malawi’s capacity to consider, determine and implement responsive reforms in the wider agriculture sector.
The Institute will work closely with the National Planning Commission to build an independent, credible and self-sustaining agriculture policy Think Tank that serves the interests of public and private stakeholders.
During the media networking breakfast on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, MwAPATA Institute’s Executive Director Dr. Sloans Chimatiro assured the nation of the role the Institute will play in serious critical analysis of policies that benefits the nation.
Dr. Chimatiro said the institute will work independently while advising the country’s leadership on which policy reforms work.
“We hope to make MwAPATA Institute a centre of excellent in agricultural, natural resources and rural development policy research, providing concrete policy guidance and implementation support for agricultural transformation, diversification and development.
“As a policy research Think Tank, MwAPATA works with different researchers in Malawi and outside Malawi to generate evidence for policy influence including deforestation, soil health, integrated fisheries, agricultural extension system innovations and sustainable energy and livelihoods,” assures Dr Chimatiro.
MwAPATA Institute works in partnership with Michigan State University (MSU), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), and the National Planning Commission (NPC)as well as private, public and civil society organization in Malawi.
