BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—In a bid to reach out to every voter across the Southern region, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has resorted to decentralized campaign which will see local leaders being on forefront in their designated areas.

In the past days, Nankhumwa has been moving around conducting meetings with local leaders at district and constituency levels to solicit views as to how they want the party to conduct the campaign in their respective areas.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Chikwawa after wrapping-up the meetings, Nankhumwa said the party will design a campaign suitable for each area or constituency in line with the views solicited.

“We will be going back to the drawing board. Throughout the meeting people have raised issues; they have raised their aspirations as to how they want us to conduct the campaign. So within the next two days we are going to design the campaign; we are going to design the campaign befitting the area, befitting the constituency, befitting where these people are coming from. Remember what we are saying is we have tried to decentralize the campaign as much as possible,” said Nankhumwa.

Nankhumwa further urged Malawians to give President Peter Mutharika a fresh mandate to rule the country saying the president has implemented major development projects within a very short period of time.

DPP’s campaign chairperson in Chikwawa Owen Chomanika said he has put in place measures to make sure the DPP-UDF candidate  in the election  amasses over 90 percent of the total votes in the area.

“I am very prepared to produce maxmum votes and we are targeting it to be close to 90%. We are doing all this because we know it’s a prerequisite that we should do so. But currently we are moving around to make sure that we are energizing all party structures and also trying to reach to as many people as possible in all structures,” he said.

The meetings were attended by district governors, ward councilors, former and incumbent members of parliament among others.
