Malawi’s Chitipa CCAP Pastor Brown Khonje arrested for Ivory illegal possession

Pastor Brown Khonje of CCAP in Chitipa has been arrested over Ivory ( Horns of Elephants) possession

CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police in Chitipa are keeping in custody Pastor Brown Khonje of CCAP along side church’s driver Nabioti Nkhonje for illegal possession of ivory.

This is contrary to Section 86 of National Parks and Wildlife as read with Section 110b (Raw Ivory).

According to police report the two were arrested on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Namuchesi along Chitipa Karonga road.

“A team of Chitipa Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was on dairy patrol duties after receiving a tip from well wishers that there is a certain motor vehicle coming from Nthalire heading Karonga via Kapoka. Upon arrival at Namuchesi primary school,the team intercepted a Nissan Advan vehicle driven by Pastor Nkhonje of Reg no MHG 4482 white in colour.

“After searching the vehicle two pieces of Ivory weighed 21 kilograms each were found. Seizure of the trophies made.Eventually, vehicle has been impounded and arrest of the two suspects made,” reads part of report.

Pastor Nkhonje aged 46 and driver, 51 hail from Chimalawanthu village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mwankhunikira, Rumphi district.
