BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Students from Malawi public universities will now have free access to Wi-Fi which will go along way in their studies.
The signing ceremony contract for the provision of campus Wi-Fi and National connectivity to high education institutions took place in Blantyre on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Blantyre.
Speaking at the event acting chief executive officer for the Public private partnership commission (PPPC) Audrey Mwala said that Digital Malawi project is a government project which is being implemented by PPPC and is funded by the world Bank to the tune of US$72.4 million.
In his remarks principle secretary in the Ministry of information Enerst Katchetche highlighted that government is striving to promote the usage of ICT especially internet by promoting access to it’s use at all institutions of higher learning and to all citizens.
Under the agreement the National connectivity to institutions of higher learning will be handled by Open connect Limited (OCL) whereby campus Wi-Fi will be taken care by CMC technologies,Compu tech bussiness services limited and computer automation limited.
Mzuzu University (Mzuni), Kamuzu college of nursing (KCN) Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Chancellor college (Chanco) the polytechnic and Malawi University of science and technology (Must) will benefit from the project.
