Community of Sadala village in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga has on Thursday found a dead body of unidentified man suspected to be an Ethiopian national.
According to our source, the body was found in the forest by some charcoal burners who reported the matter to the authorities.
They said their leaders then decided to bury the body after informing the police because it was stinking.
“The man was aged between 30 to 40 years and we believe that he was an illegal immigrant and that he died because of hunger. Our leaders decided to bury it because it was producing bad smell,” said our source.
“A lot of illegal immigrants with the aid of some Malawians always use this forest as their hide, and this is not the first time to have such kind of issue,” they added.
They disclosed that the law enforcers were also present during the burial ceremony and that they advised the community to report to them if they find any strange man in their area.
Karonga police are yet to issue a comment on the development but some Maravi Post source within the police confirmed the development.
